7 Must-Watch Horror Movies and TV Shows on Netflix in October

Some people love watching horror movies and TV shows throughout the year, while others reserve getting creeped out solely for October. Whichever you prefer, you’ll have plenty of scary things to watch leading up to Halloween. It may be difficult to choose with so many options, so we’ve gathered 7 of the must-watch horror movies and TV shows on Netflix this month.

Chilling Adventures of Sabrina

If you’re expecting the same upbeat and lovable nature of ABC’s Sabrina the Teenage Witch from Netflix’s new version of the show, think again. Chilling Adventures of Sabrina is set in the same universe as CW’s Riverdale, but is a whole lot spookier. If demon worship is up your alley, be sure to mark your calendar for its release on Oct. 26, 2018.

Mad Men star Kiernan Shipka is bringing this new version of Sabrina to life, alongside Ross Lynch as Harvey. The author of the Sabrina comics, Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, also helped produce the Netflix show — and he describes it as a perfectly creepy “slow burn horror” story.

The Haunting of Hill House

This Netflix series, which is based on Shirley Jackson’s 1959 novel, The Haunting of Hill House, will take its own unique spin on the story. It will dive into the trauma victims go through after paranormal experiences, which just gets scarier and scarier throughout the series. It premieres on Oct. 12, 2018, so you’ll have plenty of time to watch throughout the month.

Creeped Out

This creepy series may be directed at kids, but it has potential to give any viewer the chills. Creeped Out originally premiered on Halloween in 2017 on CBBC, but this year, you can start streaming it on Netflix. If you remember loving Are You Afraid of the Dark? as a kid, you’ll definitely want to watch this show.

Whether or not you’re a horror fan, this Netflix film sems worth a shot. After all, Apostle stars Legion’s Dan Stevens, in which his character travels to an island on a rescue mission for his sister, but things end up going terribly wrong.

It’s directed by Gareth Evans, known for the movies The Raid and The Raid 2. He has a unique directing style that includes “bloody, dynamic visuals.” And according to Inverse, we can expect to see Evans “pushing the boundaries of what a human body is capable of” in this movie.

Castlevania Season 2

If you’re already a fan of Castlevania’s first season, you’re probably counting down the days until Season 2. It premieres on Oct. 26, 2018, so if you haven’t seen Season 1 yet, there’s still time to binge the episodes. Considering the gothic fantasy series received rave reviews from critics and viewers alike, we’re thinking this definitely belongs on your must-watch list.

What starts out as a series of scams by a character named Jackson and his sister, Angela, turns into a horrifying tale. In Malevolent, Angela cons those who have lost loved ones into thinking she can speak to the dead, until one home she and Jackson pay a visit to turns out to have a threatening history (including multiple murders of young girls). See how the story turns out for yourself on Netflix once it premieres on its Oct. 5, 2018.

Given that The Shining has returned to Netflix in October 2018, we’re considering it a requirement to give the horror film a watch at least once before Halloween. The Stephen King adaptation is the ultimate classic — and no matter how many times you’ve seen it, it’s bound to make you lie awake at night for at least a few days.
