90 Day Fiancé star Ashley Martson has been going through a painful divorce process from her ex-husband, Jay Smith. Smith is infamous for his cheating scandal, and now even more so for his recent ICE detention.
Smith is now out on bail, and while he seems to have moved on quickly with a new girlfriend, Martson seems to have been dealing with emotional turmoil over the divorce and everything involved.
Smith’s barbershop escapade led to divorce
Jay Smith is well-known for his infidelity by now. It barely took any time after his marriage to Martson for her to discover that he was chatting up women on Tinder. She almost divorced him then, but changed her mind and decided to keep on trying with Smith.
Unfortunately for the 90 Day Fiancé star, Smith had other plans. Smith found employment at a barbershop, but that wasn’t all he found there. Apparently, Smith had sex with another woman in the bathroom of his place of employment.
The woman in question claims that she met Smith at a 2018 cookout and that he never mentioned his marriage to Martson. Martson had a phone call with the woman, who told her, “I had come into the barbershop and getting ready to start the tattoo, and he kinda was like touching me, kind of caressing me and then one thing kind of just lead to another. We went into the bathroom and had sex.”
Martson said she’s not angry with the woman, because Smith never informed her that he was married.
Could Smith be deported?
Once Martson began the divorce process with Smith, separating herself from him, things got nastier. Smith trespassed on Martson’s property while she was away on vacation, prompting her to take out a Protection From Abuse order against him.
Smith promptly violated the order by discussing it on social media, and a warrant was issued based on that violation. Martson told Us Weekly, “ICE had contacted me the day before I did the PFA and said that they were coming. … The PFA and the violation just got him arrested basically two days earlier than what he would have been.”
Smith turned himself in to ICE and has since been released on bail. However, his future in the U.S. is unclear, and there is a chance he could still be deported back to Jamaica.
Fellow 90 Day Fiancé star Larissa Dos Santos Lima believes he has a right to stay. Lima told Us Weekly, “Why ICE detained him, I do not understand. What a frightening situation he was put in. He did not come to the United States illegally. He came as a K1 and has his rights to stay, even if his marriage did not work out.”
Martson claims she’s ‘dying inside’
Meanwhile, fans have received some mixed signals from Martson. At times, it seems as if she feels Smith has gotten what he deserved, and at others, it sounds as if she’s heartbroken over what’s going down.
During the 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? tell-all, Martson said, “Honestly, I’m dying inside, just so you all know. Like, I’ve sat in my bed for two weeks straight, trying to take care of my kids, I lost 23 pounds… I’m hurt. We’re getting a divorce and it hurts because I love him. I still love him.”
Martson went on to admit that perhaps she was a little controlling when it came to Smith, perhaps utilizing his green card as something to hold over his head. “Ultimately, it was because I loved him and I was scared,” claimed Martson. “I didn’t want to lose him. I didn’t want him to go out and find somebody else. I couldn’t help that and I don’t know why I thought me being controlling would stop what he was doing… I was miserable.”
