’90 Day Fiancé’: Does Michael Ilesanmi’s Mother Give Angela Deem and Michael Her Blessing a Second Time?
On 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After, Angela Deem is back in Nigeria, and this time she plans to marry Michael Ilesanmi. But before the impending nuptials, Angela has to deal with some major stress. After a health scare, she learns from her doctor that she doesn’t actually have cancer, but there could be complications to Angela carrying a child. Although she no longer has eggs of her own, she has been reassured that she can still “tote a baby” for Michael.
As can be expected, this has been a very difficult period for Angela, who tells her fiancé, Michael about the news, and his first reaction is less than ideal. However, he does eventually tell Angela that he wants to be with her regardless of whether they have a child or not. But they’re worried about what Michael’s family, especially his mother, will think if they don’t procreate.
Angela Deem walks away from Michael Ilesanmi and his Aunt Lydia
This isn’t even the only thing on Angela’s plate. After being required to attend marriage counseling before being able to register to marry, Angela tells Michael’s Aunt Lydia that she won’t be “submissive” after hearing that’s what’s expected of her.
Michael tries to chime in by reminding Angela that his culture is still part of their lives, but it doesn’t get him very far. In fact, the conversation turns, and Angela tells Michael how she feels about things. “It seems to me…in front of Aunt Lydia, you’re not who you tell me you are,” Angela says. “In front of Aunt Lydia, you’re shooting her a bunch of bull.”
After returning from the bathroom, Aunt Lydia says to Angela, “But with this kind of attitude, I don’t know about your marriage.” This really sets Angela off, who walks away and says the wedding is off. It leads to a huge fight between Angela and Michael, and it’s a sad turn of events.
Angela tells Michael after their fight that she wants to speak to his mother
Michael meets up with Angela at the house, and things get explosive between them. When they finally sit down and talk one more time, Angela reveals that she wants to talk with Michael’s mother about what she learned at the premarital counseling, as well as the fact that they might not be able to have children.
“You want to have this wedding, I’m talking to you mom. Because you know, that’s the only one I’ll listen to,” Angela says to Michael.
Angela is leaving it all in Michael’s mother’s hands as to whether this wedding is going to happen. “And if she tells me that I should leave and Michael’s not going to change, then the wedding’s off,” Angela tells producers.
Angela speaks with Michael’s mother about what she was told in premarital counseling
Angela hires a translator to properly communicate between Michael’s mother and herself. Although the reason for the meeting is the issue of what’s expected of Angela, she even decides to bring up her issues with fertility as well. Michael’s mother, Aduke, and his brother, Yekimi, arrive to speak with Angela with the help of the translator.
Angela wants to make sure everyone is on the same page about her and Michael being equal in their relationship. She recalls the conversation with Aunt Lydia about the premarital counseling and how she was told to be submissive to Michael. Yekimi tries to explain that they believe the wife should be submissive to the husband.
“The husband is the head of the home,” Aduke, Michael’s mother, says to the producers. “The husband is the head of the wife. That’s how it is.”
Michael’s mother asks Michael if he agrees to be equal with Angela, and he says he does. “There is no problem since that’s what you want,” Aduke replies.
Does Michael’s mother give Angela and Michael her blessing for a second time?
Now that they got that out of the way, there’s still another hurdle they need to overcome. Angela decides to come clean and tell Aduke about her problems with fertility. Angela is hoping to get Aduke’s blessing even after she reveals that they might not have children.
“I think it’s only fair to tell you where we’re at about if Michael and I can have children,” Angela tells her. “With my age, I might not be able to tote a baby.”
Michael translates, and asks for his mother’s consent and blessing for their marriage. “I give my consent,” Aduke replies. “God will make the marriage work.”
It sounds like the wedding is going to happen now that Angela and Michael have the consent from Aduke. “I was sad to learn that Angela might find it difficult to conceive for Michael,” Aduke tells the cameras. “Michael has indicated that he loves her. Who else will he love? They will continue to love each other.”
Things are finally looking up for Angela and Michael now that they have Aduke’s blessing and everything’s out in the open. The wedding is back on, and the future looks bright.
