’90 Day Fiancé’ Fans Aren’t Thrilled About Big Ed’s Appearance On New Spinoff

90 Day Fiancé star Big Ed has been incredibly controversial throughout his time on the show. Many fans have pointed out that he treated Rose Vega, his Filipina love interest, like a child or an object. Big Ed also faced backlash when a former coworker claimed he sexually assaulted her. Now, it’s confirmed that the reality star will be appearing on a new spinoff called Strikes Back, and fans are not thrilled to see him returning to their screens.

90 Day Fiancé fans were shocked to see how Big Ed treated Rose Vega during his visit to the Philippines. Many felt as though Big Ed behaved like some sort of sex tourist, barely taking any time to engage with the culture or Vega’s life, and treating her like a child.

His first mistake was when he asked Vega to get an STD test only to seem unwilling to get the same test taken himself. Things got worse when, after an uncomfortable night together at a hotel where Ed tried to kiss an unenthused Vega, he told her that she needed to shave her legs.

Ed turned to Vega in bed, and told her, “Um, don’t be mad at me, but um, I noticed your legs were kind of like mine, they were hairy. Would you shave your legs?”

Later, he visited Vega’s home, and was shocked to discover the level of poverty she lived in. However, instead of showing compassion and empathy, he failed to hide the distaste in his voice while openly pointing out their poverty.

The 90 Day Fiancé star then took Vega to another hotel, and gave her a teddy bear, a bikini, and a toothbrush with mouthwash. He told her, ““ got you a couple more things. This is going to be less romantic. So, this is mouthwash. And I got you a cute toothbrush because your breath is not pretty.”

Big Ed was already in the crosshairs of many fans after his boorish behavior. However, it wasn’t long before he became an even bigger target.

One of Ed’s former coworkers came forward to discuss how he had sexually harassed and assaulted her during their time working together.

The accuser, who goes by Lordakeet on Tik Tok, said of Ed, “On the first day that Ed and I met, one of the first things that came out of his mouth was, ‘Wow, I’m so happy that you’re hot, because I wouldn’t want to look at someone who is ugly all day long while I was working.’ Later that day he had put me in an armlock and put me to the ground. If I had been taught these skills earlier, I would have been able to save myself months of harassment and assault. I’m sharing this with you because I hope that it will help you prevent going through a traumatic experience like I went through.”

Now, it seems as though Big Ed will be returning to the 90 Day Fiancé franchise. This time, he’ll be joined by other controversial cast members, such as Tom Brooks and Babygirl Lisa. The spinoff, Strikes Back, offers these cast members a chance to tell their side of the story, and to fight back at social media comments.

Fans don’t seem so thrilled to see Big Ed making his way back onto the show, however. One Redditor said of his return, “I’m obsessed with the franchise but have literally 0 motivation to watch this.”

Another Redditor suggests the spinoff may be their own fault. They wrote, “I hate that we literally did this. Like, every meme about Ed, slowly leaked and brought this show a huge boom in followers, especially when a certain streamer got ahold of it. So it just… blew up. So I think we are stuck with Ed for a while.”

One post about the spinoff read, in part, “And it heavily featured Ed being smug and all. Like why though?? A part of me was happy this season is wrapping up so that I don’t have to see Ed being disgusting every week, and now they’re giving him a platform to talk about his sh*tty opinion. Stop giving Ed an extension of his 15 seconds of fame.”
