’90 Day Fiancé’: Fans React to Paul’s Mom Refusing to Financially Support Him and Karine
Edna of 90 Day Fiancé has said it before and she’ll say it again: She’s done bailing out her son, Paul Staehle.
Over the years, Paul has often relied on her for monetary support, guidance, and other assistance. But after repeatedly being there for him, Edna has become less lenient and willing to help him out. Now that he’s in his late 30s with a family to support, she thinks he should grow up and make better life choices.
She strongly expressed those sentiments with him in the July 12 episode of 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After?, drawing praise from fans who agree that it’s time for Paul to become more responsible and self-sufficient.
Inside Paul’s relationship with his wife Karine Staehle
Paul and Karine were introduced in the first season of 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days, which aired in 2017. They connected online and later met in person when Paul traveled from his residence in Kentucky to Karine’s home country of Brazil.
The pair married in 2017 and soon learned they were expecting. They were looking forward to starting a life in the United States, but when Paul couldn’t come up with the money for the K-1 visa process and Edna refused to help, they briefly settled in Brazil. However, life wasn’t so easy there, either, as Paul struggled to find work.
On 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After?, the couple is finally in the United States with their young son, Pierre. But finances are still a major point of contention in their marriage.
Paul has asked Edna for help
Transitioning to life in America has been really hard for the couple. They had hoped they would at least be able to rely on Edna for housing, but she quickly shut that down.
They looked at low-cost living options in the July 12 episode of the show, but Karine clearly was not satisfied. Frustrated, she called him a “no good husband” and threatened to move back to Brazil with their son.
As they continued to clash over finances, Paul arranged to have dinner with Edna, where they were supposed to ask her for help. But Karine got so irritated with Paul that she no longer wanted to go.
When he arrived by himself, Edna was disappointed and said she said she wouldn’t have come had she known Karine and Pierre wouldn’t be there. Paul, however, still stuck to his plan and asked Edna for a loan.
“I’m just trying to offer Pierre the best possible life. The thing is right now, I need a little bit of financial help to get on my feet,” he told her.
But she told Paul it was “not going to happen,” explaining that he has come to her too many times and that he should have made smarter decisions before starting a family.
Fans react to Paul’s mom shutting him down
Judging from social media, most viewers rallied behind Edna and her decision. One person tweeted, “Paul manipulative asf using the baby to get a loan. And im glad his mom see right thru his sh*t,” while another fan wrote: “She is the EPIDEMY of a strong woman and what parents should do not to enable their children. Respect.” A third person chimed in and suggested that Edna continue her approach to Paul but at least help his wife and son.
And then there were others who felt that she should do more for her son.
“I understand Paul’s mom for caring enough for him to be wanting him to be more independent as a husband and a father, but at least she could give him some more warmth and a little financial cushion to get the ball rolling, or else he’ll lose his wife & child!” read one tweet.
Agreeing, another person tweeted: “I think she should help him even though she helped in the past but he didn’t have a wife and kids now. Just help get them stable.”
But Edna seems steadfast in her decision, so it’s hard to imagine her letting up. Stay tuned to 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After? to see what happens from here.
