90 Day Fiancé stars Syngin Colchester and Tania Maduro always seemed to have challenges in their relationship. But on the fifth season of TLC’s 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After, their troubles—from Syngin’s drinking habits to plans for future children and Tania’s discontent with her husband’s ambitions in life—seemed to come to a head.
On a recent episode of 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After, Tania and Syngin had a massive fight about their plans for the future, and Syngin’s lack of direction, in front of Syngin’s family in his home country of South Africa. And when Tania exclaimed that her husband had only ended up in the U.S. because of her, 90 Day Fiancé fans immediately exploded on social media.
Syngin and Tania had a massive fight in front of Syngin’s family on ’90 Day Fiancé’
On a recent 90 Day Fiancé episode, Syngin and Tania sat down for South African barbeque with Syngin’s siblings, Dylan and Charys Colchester, as well as his parents. But things weren’t exactly kicked back and relaxed during dinner. In fact, they got downright heated.
Syngin’s comments about possibly buying a plot of land in South Africa instead of returning to the U.S., as well as about the couple’s disagreements about future children, set Tania off. Tania accused her husband of lacking direction, motivation, and ambition. The pair yelled at each other as their family looked on.
After the argument, Tania wondered aloud if she should even stay married to Syngin. Meanwhile, Syngin told his parents, “I’m not going to be married if it’s like this.”
Charmain, Syngin’s mom, told 90 Day Fiancé producers that she understood where her daughter-in-law was coming from. Still, she thought Tania had gone too far in the argument.
“I understand Tania’s point of view,” Charmain said. “You see, a woman wants a guy to be a bit more stable. But once again, I did feel she pushed a bit too far.”
Dylan and Charys also said they were “quite surprised” by the heated argument between Syngin and Tania.
“This is maybe what happens behind closed doors,” Charys wondered aloud, adding that she was worried her marriage might end up like that.
Tania pointed out that Syngin had come to the U.S. ‘because of her’
Syngin found Tania in the bedroom and tried to talk things out, but the conversation quickly got heated once again.
“God forbid if, oh, let’s finally settle down and make some plans for our f*cking future,” Tania snapped. “God forbid I want you to actually try.”
Syngin pointed out that he’d left South Africa to be with Tania, but he still had a “free spirit.”
“How the f*ck do you think I got this far in life?” the 90 Day Fiancé star pointed out.
Tania snapped in reply, “You got to America because of me. You didn’t make that happen on your own.”
“You think I wanted to come to America?” Syngin shot back harshly. “You feel all big-chested because you brought me to America?”
Finally, the couple ended their argument for the time being—but it was clear that this would be an ongoing problem between the pair.
Some fans pushed back against Tania’s statement
“When Tania told Syngin that he got to the U.S. because of her and he said he didn’t even want to be there, it made me happy,” one Reddit user pointed out. “That’s sort of a f*cked up thing to say even if you’re fighting.”
Many Redditors agreed, arguing that some of the Americans on 90 Day Fiancé seemed to think they were doing their partners a favor by bringing them to the U.S. on a K-1 visa.
“Tania has the mentality that America is the best country, hands down, and that Syngin is lucky to even have gone there,” one fan wrote. “I think a lot of the US fiancés believe that, even when their partners are from good countries, with good lives.”
Another viewer wrote similarly, “I never got the impression that Syngin was even dying to come to America. Seems like he was enjoying his life just fine in [South Africa].”
Other viewers thought that Syngin and Tania were not a compatible couple
Some 90 Day Fiancé fans took to the same Reddit post to claim that Tania and Syngin might not be a compatible pair at all.
“She drove me NUTS during that dinner with his family,” one commenter wrote of Tania. ‘These two seem to have not even a shred of happiness together.”
Other fans agreed with Tania’s concerns about Syngin’s work ethic, but not with her behavior at the family dinner.
“Syngin is lazy as hell and I think to some degree she has some legitimate concerns,” one Reddit user admitted, “but GOOD GOD she has absolutely no respect for her own partner.”
Another user agreed, writing, “I’m not defending him, he seems flaky. But they really don’t seem happy at all, and if he doesn’t want to be in the U.S. it’s never going to work.”
Several fans argued that, if Tania and Syngin couldn’t even agree on what country they wanted to live in, their relationship as a whole was unlikely to work out.
