TLC, you shouldn’t have done what you did. 90 Day Fiancé stars Michael Jessen and Juliana Custodio recently visited Jessen’s ex-wife for dinner, during which the three discussed Custodio’s role in the family. Now, Jessen’s ex-wife, Sarah Jessen, is not happy with TLC.
According to Sarah, TLC cut and edited their dinner conversation in a way that portrayed her in a very unflattering way. Apparently, TLC went to great efforts to make the dinner seem awkward and uncomfortable when in reality, it was fine. Here’s what Sarah has to say.
Defending her words
During the dinner with Michael Jessen and Juliana Custodio, Sarah was made out to look somewhat domineering and as if she were laying down the law. However, Sarah says 90 Day Fiancé was edited to look that way.
At one point, in the conversation, Michael Jessen says, “Well…she’s not replacing you. I think, already in a very short period of time, the kids and Juliana have a good rapport. And I’m not going to put any pressure or burden on her.”
Afterwards, Sarah Jessen tells Custodio, “The kids have great parents. Michael is a great father and I’m a great mom. And what I want from you is to not parent, at all.”
However, Sarah Jessen is claiming that TLC chose to edit the moment. According to Sarah, that’s now it went down at all. In a post on Facebook, Sarah Jessen wrote, “[T]he ‘I don’t want you to parent’ comment was cut mid-sentence. What they edited out was the reason I have her which was ‘you’re adjusting to a new home, a new country and have a new relationship. I don’t want you to feel the added stress of feeling the responsibility of trying to parent Max and Cece.'”
She then added, “Juliana and I are EXTREMELY close and I hope the producers will end up showing how our relationship has evolved and you will stay tuned with an open mind and heart.”
Defending her appearance
Unfortunately, Sarah Jessen was compelled to defend not only her words on the show, but also her appearance. During dinner, she was wearing a denim jacket, a black tank, black leggings, and had her hair tied back in a ponytail. Apparently some viewers took umbrage with her appearance.
She wrote, “I know that I’ve put myself out there and I expected a lot of negative comments. I feel sad about how hurtful these comments are…it surprises me because I always expect the best in humanity. 1). I own a construction company and the reason I was dressed and looked the way I did was because I was coming straight from a job.”
Jessen added, “[A]nd yes, I could use a little extra self-care. But being a single mom running 2 businesses makes putting myself last. And I value what’s on the inside more than what’s on the outside.”
Defending her kids
Jessen also felt obligated to defend her children, who also received some hate online. It seems some fans have been making fun of her son for his weight.
“The comments about my son’s weight are particularly hurtful. I am extremely focused on diet and exercise in my home. There are extenuating circumstances that make it difficult for Max to keep his weight off,” wrote Jessen in her post.
It’s a valuable reminder that passing judgment, especially based on physical appearance, is uncalled for and often comes from a place of ignorance.
