’90 Day Fiancé’ Star Paola Mayfield Claps Back at Mom-Shaming Instagram Trolls

90 Day Fiancé star Paola Mayfield is no stranger to online criticism. Since her appearance on Season 1 of the show, she’s had to face down netizens trying to tell her how to be a better mom. Paola Mayfield is sick of the haters, however. And while she says she tries her best not to let them get her down, they do sometimes get into her head. Here’s what Mayfield has to say about dealing with the trolls

Telling Instagram she won’t change her looks

When Paola Mayfield was pregnant, she refused to change how she dressed. In fact, she was proud of her body — something she claims set off people online.

In an interview with People, the 90 Day Fiancé star said, “People think that because I became a mother, I had to stop being like the way I was. That I had to start dressing as a mom, and I don’t even know what that means,” said Paola. “I don’t need to change who I am, because I was proud of who I was before I was a mom.”

Mayfield has previously got out ahead of the haters on Instagram, posting a video of herself showing off her baby bump. She captioned the video in part, “Before the #momshaming start with the blah blah blah comments. Let me tell you this. No, I’m not worried what my kid’s friends will say about me when they see my photos or videos, that is way down the road for me to even worry about. Plus, I haven’t even pushed this baby out yet lol! I’m not changing just because I’m pregnant or becoming a mom, I was proud before of who I am and what I’ve done so there’s nothing to be ashamed of.”

Mayfield had received critical comments on her other Instagram posts from haters previously. One user wrote, “LEAVE SOMETHING TO THE IMAGINATION, have some respect for Russ. and your future son.”

Another added, “I can’t believe Russ let you show your honey.”

How she deals with the hate

Paola Mayfield says that while she tries to ignore the haters, it’s just not always that easy. Mayfield told People that sometimes, they can get under her skin.

“Sometimes it makes me double think my decisions and it makes me wonder if I did something right or wrong. But the decisions I am making for my son are in my heart,” said Mayfield.

However, Mayfield deals with the shamers by staying true to herself. Her husband, Russ Mayfield, says she’s inspired him. “She received the backlash and she was like, ‘No, this is who I am and I’m not going to change because you suddenly think I’m supposed to be this stay-at-home mom,’” said Russ Mayfield.

He added, “I have responded to them to show my support. She doesn’t need to change who she is and we want to teach our son to be yourself.”

Telling Michael Jessen to chill out

Now, Paola Mayfield is dealing with being called out by Michael Jessen. The 90 Day Fiancé star was on Pillow Talk recently, and made a comment about Jessen. She said he, “only thinks of himself.”

Jessen said of Mayfield’s comment, “…[S]he looks at us and says, ‘Oh he only thinks of himself.’ That’s exactly why I get upset about this, Sarah gets upset, Juliana gets upset. It shows how the show distorts the reality of who we are. Anybody who knows who we really are, come on….”

Mayfield replied on a recent episode of The Domenick Nati Show, saying, “What I have to say, look, what we all see, what we see is what we all see. Like I have my opinion, I have a strong opinion. I don’t think I said anything bad to him … I think I was just concerned about Juliana, that’s all. And whatever he said on his live video, I really don’t care.”

“I don’t like this drama on social media, I don’t like to go back and forth into that. If you have something to say he can actually send me a DM because he follows me. I don’t know, we can have a conversation about it, but just trying to point it only at me, it’s ridiculous because on the show, we all have an opinion. And it’s not bad,” Mayfield added..
