’90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way’ Star Has Visa Denied on Terrorism Charges

When it comes to 90 Day Fiancé there’s never any shortage of drama. Especially visa drama. Getting a visa is already a challenging process, one that the show manages to spotlight pretty effectively. Nicole Nafziger and Azan Tefou are an excellent example of some of the challenges that can arise during the visa process, and how unexpected they can end up being.

Nothing exemplified this better for fans of 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way than Paul Staehle and Karine Martins tried to move Staehle into Brazil. Staehle’s visa application was denied — on terrorism charges.

Paul threatens to give up

While we’re not entirely sure what went wrong just yet, or what it is that the Brazilian government is accusing Staehle of doing, we do know some of the fallout.

“Your application for permanent residency has been denied,” Staehle reads slowly in the teaser, his voice tinged with bewilderment. “I need a minute,” adds Staehle before repeating “nope” and awkwardly bounding away from the cameras. The teaser then goes on to show some serious fighting.

Likely spurred on by the news about the visa, Staehle is seen confronting Martins. Wearing a backpack, finger pointed at Martins, who is on her phone, Staehle says. “I’m gonna go to America. I’m gonna send money to you and the baby.” Martins proceeds to yell at Staehle to stop it.

“We can get divorced, that’s fine,” adds Staehle, before the camera cuts to Martins angrily flipping him the bird.

A surprising turn of events

For some fans, this might come as a surprise. It seemed as if they couple may have been on the upswing recently. Karine Martins recently gave birth to the couple’s child, named Pierre Staehle. The couple and their child were also all able to acquire their passports.

However, Staehle’s behavior in the past has had some fans questioning how good he really is for Karine. In fall of 2018, Staehle required that Karine get a paternity test to confirm that her pregnancy was really due to their relationship. Many fans were displeased with Staehle’s decision to treat Karine this way. This feeling was exacerbated by the fact that Karine has already had to go through two miscarriages.

One fan tweeted, “He asked her to do a std and pregnancy test the day they met last season, is no one remembering this? Whether he announced it to the world or not karine is still being emotionally abused behind doors.”

A history with crime

Perhaps there’s a reason Brazil didn’t immediately warm to the idea of letting Paul Staehle in. As a matter of fact, Staehle does have a pretty damning criminal record. In 2007 Staehle was charged with second-degree arson as well as “Burning Personal Property To Defraud Insurer,” and wasn’t convicted until 2017.

In an allusion to his criminal record prior to informing Karine, Paul once said on the show, “One of the relationships I was in ended so badly, it ended up getting me in some serious trouble.” That’s a pretty lighthearted way to refer to arson.

However, that seems to be Staehle’s attitude towards the event in general. In an interaction in Instagram in which Martins shared a story about starting a fire, Staehler replied, “Arson is bad. Be careful with fire. I am at our place so it was not me.”
