’90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way’: Sumit’s Father Threatens to Legally Prevent His Marriage to Jenny
Sumit and Jenny are facing yet another relationship challenge. The 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way couple is hoping to get hitched as soon as possible. But in a recent episode, Sumit’s dad, Anil, literally threatened to take legal action to prevent their marriage.
The ’90 Day Fiancé’ couple will have to part ways if they don’t get married
In the last season of 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way, Jenny cashed in her savings and moved to India to be with Sumit. The two rented a Delhi apartment and seemed happy until Jenny’s 6-month visit visa expired, and she was forced to leave.
This season, Jenny returned to India on another visit visa. Once Sumit’s divorce is finalized, the couple plans on getting married so she can stay with him indefinitely.
“I’m excited for this,” Jenny told producers ahead of Sumit’s divorce news. “I can see the light at the end of the tunnel. But the clock is ticking, and time is running out. So, this divorce needs to hurry up and get finalized before my visa expires.”
Sumit’s parents could create a roadblock
In an earlier episode of 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way, Sumit sat down with his parents and tried to convince them to give him and Jenny their blessing. But noting their 31-year age difference, Sumit’s parents refused to accept.
However, there is a reason Sumit keeps trying to get his parents on board. He noted that if he marries Jenny against their will, they could go to court and try to stop the wedding,
“I don’t want them to put any kind of complication on me and Jenny’s marriage,” Sumit told producers. “We want to get married before her visa expires to let her stay here in India. If they’re not ready to accept Jenny, I just want to make sure they’re not going to [sic] mess with my marriage.”
On ’90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way,’ Sumit’s dad threatens to stop his marriage to Jenny
Recently on 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way, Sumit sat with his dad, Anil, to discuss his life after the divorce. Sumit told his father he planned to marry Jenny because she supported him “financially, morally” and “physically” and helped him through his most challenging times. But his dad pushed back, citing Jenny’s age as the issue.
“You’re going to have a relationship with that lady, who is elder to your father, elder to your mother?” Anil asked. “If somebody supports you, it doesn’t mean you should go to marry her.”
Anil also pointed out that Sumit’s mother, Sahna, would never accept Jenny along with him. “We will stop you legally [from] marrying her,” he added. “You understand? I will not allow you at any cost.”
Fans will see more of Sumit and Jenny’s story as the season continues. New episodes air Sundays on TLC.
