’90 Day Fiancé’: Who Are New Couple Mike and Natalie?

90 Day Fiancé never seems to have a shortage of new couples ready to tell their story on the show. With the latest season in full swing, fans of the show have been introduced to several new couples, including one of the more controversial new arrivals, Michael Jessen and Juliana Custodio

Now, TLC is bringing in yet another new couple, Mike and Natalie. According to Mike, the story of his international love starts with his close friend Matt, and his Ukrainian wife, Svetlana. Here’s what we know.

A family matter

This particular 90 Day Fiancé story starts off a little differently from the usual fare. Mike, who is a 34-year-old from Sequim, Washington, was influenced by his close friend Matt. As it turns out, Matt married a woman named Svitlana from Kiev, Ukraine.

Matt and Svitlana had a child together, and they named Mike the godfather. Svitlana decided to name her best friend, Natalie, as the godmother. As it happens, Natalie is also from Kiev, Ukraine. It seems as if Svitlana began showing Mike pictures of Natalie.

This is different from the usual story. Typically, couples appearing on the show tend to have met one another online, whether that’s through Facebook, a dating service, or some other method. It’s not common for TLC to feature a story in which a couple meets via family ties. Perhaps the personal nature of this connection means there’s a higher likelihood of success.

Impressed at first sight

According to Mike, he was stunned by Natalie as soon as he saw pictures of her. Unfortunately, the Washington native felt he was out of his league when it came to the Ukrainian beauty.

Mike told TLC, “When Svitlana showed me pictures of Natalie, I thought at first that she was absolutely beautiful and gorgeous. She showed me some pictures of her riding horses and doing some modeling.”

Mike was impressed by Natalie’s education and commitment to family. He said, “She told me we’re both family-oriented. She lives with her mom and she has a couple degrees in psychology and journalism.”

“I was hesitant at first, and I was thinking to myself, ‘why would this woman possibly be interested in a guy like me,’ you know?’ I’m not saying I’m not a catch, but you know?” asked Mike, laughing.

“I texted her and said hey, my name’s Miike. And then we just started texting back and forth a little bit. And then the friendship started blooming from there, and she said she’d really like for me to come out there, and see if we hit it off. And so I booked the flights and shot off to Kiev, Ukraine,” concluded Mike. Hopefully, we’ll be learning more about Mike’s  90 Day Fiancé story soon.

Not the first Ukrainian girlfriend

One hopes Mike’s experience with  90 Day Fiancé and Ukrainian love goes better than Caesar Mack’s. Mack, a nail technician in the U.S., fell in love with Maria, a Ukrainian woman he met on a dating website.

Unfortunately for Mack, who claims he sent Maria $40,000 over the course of five years, things did not work out. Mack and Maria have broken up, and many feel as if Maria was simply using Mack as a source of cash. Maria was also discovered to have an online bridal profile, though it remains unclear whether or not that was established before, during, or after her relationship with Mack.
