Actors and Actresses Who Admitted to Stealing Props From Their Sets
After spending hundreds of hours filming a movie, it’s no wonder actors and actresses feel like they deserve the props they used. From legendary costumes and jewelry to classic items, these are the stars who knew exactly what they were doing when they “removed” props from set.
1. Ben Affleck stole a
batarang from the set of Justice League
The crew noticed when Affleck took the bat-shaped weapon from the set of 2017’s Justice League. On The Late Show, Affleck told Stephen Colbert, “I kept getting these phone calls from the prop department, like, ‘You sure you haven’t found any of that stuff yet?'” Eventually, the actor received a bill for the prop. “Turns out batarangs aren’t cheap!” he said.
2. Aaron Paul took a fake, blown-up head and a Heisenberg hat from Breaking Bad
Breaking Bad forever changed American TV. When the series wrapped in 2013, co-stars Aaron Paul and Bryan Cranston both took Heisenberg’s black bowler hats. Paul swiped the model of Gus Fring’s destroyed skull from the nursing home episode. He also received the burnt pink teddy bear — with permission from show creator Vince Gilligan, reports EW.
3. Dakota Johnson swiped underwear and a flogger from 50 Shades of Grey
In a Twitter Q&A with Glamour, the 50 Shades of Grey star admitted she took a flogger. “It’s in the garage with dust,” Johnson explained. She also stole lots of her character’s HANRO underwear, saying, “They were comfortable.” The film’s costume designer told InStyle he went with simple white styles from the Swiss brand because they signify “virginity.”
4. Chris Pratt stole his red jacket from Guardians of the Galaxy
This theft seems honorable, as Pratt took his Star-Lord jacket and other Guardians of the Galaxy clothes so he could visit kids in the hospital. “That would give me real meaning for this movie, you know?” he told Panzer TV. “I can follow the example of someone — say, like, a Russell Wilson.”
5. Robert Pattinson took a bunch of his Twilight character’s underwear
Who else would want worn underwear, right? The star of the vampire series shocked co-stars, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner, when he said
6. Maisie Williams swiped her favorite leather jacket and ‘faceless man’ coins from Game of Thrones
The award-winning show was famous for its large cast. One beloved character Arya Stark is known for her sword, “The Needle,” as well as her more functional outfits. It only makes sense Williams would honor her time on GOT by stealing her leather jacket from the costume department. She also confessed she managed to steal a lot of Arya’s “faceless man coins.”
7. Adam Scott took his Parks and Rec nameplate; Amy Poehler took the Pawnee seal from her office
As Parks and Recreation wrapped in 2015, many wondered how the cast would honor the beloved NBC show. Scott told USA Today he took his desk nameplate, which read “Ben Wyatt, City Manager,” although he doesn’t know what he’ll do with it yet. Poehler took the giant Pawnee seal that hung behind her desk all those years. “When I picture working in the [Parks] department, I picture sitting at Leslie’s desk,” she explained.
8. Mark Wahlberg stole his prosthetic ‘member’ from Boogie Nights
The only prop the actor has ever stolen? A prosthetic penis from 1997’s Boogie Nights. Mark Wahlberg admitted to the theft on Late Night with Seth Myers, saying, “You have this weird guy putting it on you. You have to wear it all day.” It only makes sense the actor would take something he worked so closely with from the ’70s-themed set.
9. Matt LeBlanc stole the Magna Doodle off the Friends door and gave it to someone special
Jokingly, LeBlanc told Jimmy Fallon he stole a “ton of cash” from Friends. “I couldn’t fit the couch in my car,” he kidded. Then, he confessed he actually took the foosball from the foosball table in Joey and Chandler’s apartment. He also “clipped” the Magna Doodle from the back of the apartment’s door and gave it to the electrician who used to write things on it.
10. Rupert Grint stole a golden dragon egg worth thousands — and had to return it
“Well, I kind of stole, I suppose, the number off the Dursleys’ house, 4 Privet Drive,” Grint told the Daily Mail. This theft didn’t cost the movie tons of money, however. When Grint stole the Goblet of Fire golden dragon egg using a pillowcase, the props team made him return it. “Apparently it was worth a few thousand dollars,” Grint admitted.

11. Sandra Oh took a rug from her Grey’s Anatomy apartment
When Oh’s character Cristina Yang left Grey’s Anatomy, both fans and her on-screen best friend, Meredith Grey, were devastated. What most people didn’t know: She took a souvenir with her. “The best thing I’ve ever taken from a set is the rug in Owen and Cristina’s apartment on Grey’s Anatomy before they broke up,” Oh said according to People. “It’s in my living room.”

12. Ian McKellen stole the keys to Bilbo’s house in Lord of the Rings
Who wouldn’t want to remember filming an epic movie in New Zealand with a memento or two? Gandalf not only took the keys to hobbit Bilbo Baggins’ home but also unique golden coins from Smaug the dragon’s lair. The latter props came from his favorite set, “the golden Liar … Hundreds of thousands of golden coins, specially made,” he admitted on Reddit.
13. Ryan Reynolds grabbed Deadpool’s suit
Ryan Reynolds said once Deadpool wrapped he stole his signature costume. “I loved wearing it and I have run away with one,” he revealed. “I’ll probably get into trouble for saying that, but I’ve waited 10 years to do this movie so I’m leaving with a fucking suit.” As Cinema Blend explains, “Deadpool’s suit is one of the few comic book costumes that actually look like it’s been ripped from the printed page and plopped into real life.”
