‘Adventure Time’ is coming to HBO Max

WarnerMedia just announced that the cult favorite will be coming to its HBO Max streaming service in 2020. Yay! Titled Adventure Time: Distant Lands, the new episodes are being produced by Cartoon Network Studios.

Upon its launch, HBO Max will house content from Cartoon Network and other Warner Properties, and this news comes on the heels of an announcement that HBO Max just acquired animated classics Spirited Away and Princess Mononoke.

According to a WarnerMedia press release, Cartoon Network’s Chief Content Officer Rob Sorcher had this to say:

Adventure Time was a groundbreaking series and a creative playground for so many talented creative artists. Producing Adventure Time: Distant Lands for HBO Max will allow our studio to explore this beloved world in an all-new format.”

‘Adventure Time’ will air as four specials on HBO Max

At this time, it’s been revealed that only four one-hour episodes will premiere on the streamer, beginning next year. BMO and Obsidian will debut in 2020, and the other two will follow later. Who can’t wait to see little BMO and the rest of the gang?

Here’s a synopsis from HBO Max about each episode:

BMO: When there’s a deadly space emergency in the farthest reaches of the galaxy, there’s only one hero to call, and it’s probably not BMO. Except that this time it is!

Obsidian: This one features Marceline & Princess Bubblegum as they journey to the imposing, beautiful Glass Kingdom—and deep into their tumultuous past—to prevent an earthshaking catastrophe.

Wizard City: Stars Peppermint Butler starting over at the beginning as just another inexperienced Wizard School student. When mysterious events at the campus cast suspicion on Pep, and his checkered past, can he master the mystic arts in time to prove his innocence?

Together Again: Like old times, brings Finn and Jake together again to rediscover their brotherly bond and embark on the most important adventure of their lives.

When is the launch of HBO Max?

HBO Max will be up and running in spring 2020, and in terms of animated content, will feature programming from Cartoon Network, Adult Swim, Crunchyroll, Looney Tunes, and Warner Bros.

Fans should also be on the lookout for two new animated series about the Gremlins and Fred Flintstone when the streamer launches. It’s unclear if any of Adventure Time‘s old writers are on board for the project, but wouldn’t it be cool if at the very least, the show lands Pendleton Ward, Kent Osborne, and Rebecca Sugar?

More details are due to be released in the coming months, but until then, come on grab your friends, and let them know what’s happening.
