‘Aladdin’ Beat ‘Avengers: Endgame’ at the Box Office in This One Way

While Avengers: Endgame may have broken a ridiculous number of box office records — check out five big ones the Marvel movie broke here — on its way to becoming the highest-grossing film ever, the superhero movie directed by the Russo brothers (Anthony and Joe Russo), is now down one record thanks to Disney’s live-action version of Aladdin. Keep reading to learn which box office record Aladdin took from Avengers: Endgame

Remaking the 1992 Disney renaissance classic starring the late comedian and actor Robin Williams as the Genie was already a challenge without taking into consideration Avengers: Endgame.

Although the live-action version of Aladdin starring Will Smith (Genie), Naomi Scott (Jasmine), and Mena Massoud (Aladdin) hit theaters nearly a month after Avengers: Endgame on May 24, 2019, and opened with (mostly) positive reviews from viewers, the superhero movie still posed a threat at the box office because of the incredible success it had in sales.

But in the months since Avengers: Endgame’s initial release in April of 2019, fewer and fewer fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) have been flocking to theaters to see Robert Downey Jr. in his final scene as Tony Stark and Iron Man. Due in large part to the movie being released on DVD and digital download, crowds of people lining up to see Avengers: Endgame at movie theaters became smaller and smaller.

But what’s remained the same? People still want to see Aladdin. It could be that the PG-rated film drew a broader audience of children, teens, and adults while Avengers: Endgame attracted a narrower audience of only teens and adults because of it’s PG-13 rating. Plus, Aladdin could count on the nostalgia factor drawing in those who saw the original.

‘Aladdin’ broke ‘Avengers: Endgame’ record

While Avengers: Endgame is no longer in theaters, Aladdin still is. The film directed by Guy Ritchie has run for 143 days and counting, according to Comicbook/marvel, making Aladdin the longest-running movie of the year.

Aladdin was still showing on 105 screens across the country as of Oct. 10, 2019. Moral of the story? Slow and steady may not result in billions of dollars in ticket sales but it could very well lead to a box office record.

How much money has ‘Aladdin’ made compared to  ‘Avengers: Endgame’?

Although Aladdin beat Avengers: Endgame record for the longest-running film of 2019, the Disney movie earned nowhere the same amount of money in ticket sales.

Aladdin has made $1.05 billion in gross sales while Avengers: Endgame made an astounding $2.79 billion at box offices worldwide.
While Aladdin did well at the box office no film released in theaters this year has held a candle to the numbers put up by Avengers: Endgame.

Even though Aladdin’s box office receipts put it at the No. 6 top movie of the year, according to Box Office Mojo, the film’s success is dampened by Avengers: Endgame’s colossal-sized success. Simply, Aladdin performed well but the last installment in the Avengers franchise (get the order of the Avengers movies here) did even better.
