GLOW star Alison Brie is married to another famous actor, Dave Franco. Recently, the two worked together filming his directorial debut. Brie is now sharing what it was like to work with her husband in that capacity. But have they worked together before this? Let’s find out.
What Brie and Franco are famous for
Chances are, you know Brie from her TV work. The actress broke out as Annie Edison in the NBC comedy Community. She played the role for all six seasons of the beloved series. During this time, she also had a recurring role in the AMC period drama Mad Men. Additionally, Brie has voiced the main character of Diane Nguyen in the Netflix animated series BoJack Horseman.
Franco is known both for TV and film roles. He had notable parts in series such as Privileged and Scrubs for a short period of time. You may recall seeing him in comedic films such as 21 Jump Street, Now You See Me, and Neighbors. Franco has also appeared in a number of Funny or Die shorts over the years.
They’ve been married since 2017
Brie and Franco have known each other for several years. They first met in 2011 through mutual friends while celebrating Mardi Gras in New Orleans. They kept their relationship under wraps for years until their first public appearance in 2015. This was also the year they got engaged.
There has not been a lot of overlap in their careers until after they were married. Franco voiced a role in BoJack Horseman in 2016. The couple co-starred in the 2017 black comedy The Little Hours together. And both Brie and Franco appeared in the actor’s brother’s 2017 film The Disaster Artist, making the first time all three were in a project together.
Brie stars in Franco’s directorial debut
Now, Brie has a leading role in her husband’s upcoming horror film, The Rental, which he also co-wrote. Brie’s costars include Dan Stevens (Legion), Sheila Vand (Argo) and Jeremy Allen White (Shameless).
As both have said in the past, they love working together. “It’s the best! Oh, it’s the best. I love being on set with him,” Brie told Jimmy Kimmel recently. “And it was really special because we were very confined. We shot in a really small town in Oregon.”
The actress told a funny story from filming
Brie continued to talk to Kimmel about how excited the people in the town were that a movie was shooting there, saying, “there was a lot of buzz right away.” Of course, that attention can have its downside, as the actress explained. “I made a splash right away.”
She relayed how after one night of shooting, she “decided to partake in a local pastime” as she called it, referring to smoking marijuana, which is legal for recreational use in Oregon. While at dinner after, still high, she went to go to the bathroom, but instead of just standing up, “I just lifted my body and then dropped my full body weight straight on to the floor.
Brie recalled that, later, a woman at a different establishment came up to her and said, “‘Are you the girl that fell as the restaurant two hours ago?’”
Glow Season 3 will feature an episode directed by Brie
Brie was on Kimmel’s show to promote the new season of GLOW, which will be released in full on Aug. 9, 2019. This season takes place in Las Vegas, as the women headline a live show there. In addition to portraying Ruth Wilder, Brie took on another task this season: She directed the seventh episode.
Speaking to the LA Times back in May, Brie said that “it was a dream” to direct. “I loved it so much and feel slightly addicted already to the feeling of it.” Co-star Betty Gilpin added, “Ali is one of my favorite directors I’ve worked with, for sure.”
