All of the ‘Lover’ Lyrics Taylor Swift Revealed Ahead Of the Album’s Release
Taylor Swift fanatics are waiting on the edge of their seats for her brand new album, Lover. Prior to its release, Swift has shared many images, Easter eggs, and even all of the song titles off the 18-track album. In fact, she’s even shared some revealing lyrics. Here’s a look at them all.
Swift announced the enhanced album ‘Love, Taylor’
A few days ahead of the Lover album release, Swift dropped yet another surprise on her fans. She posted a video to her Instagram Stories that included a link to a Spotify playlist, which she named “Love, Taylor: Lover Enhanced Album.”
The playlist features the four songs released thus far from the album: “ME!,” “You Need to Calm Down,” “The Archer,” and “Lover.” It also has some tracks from other artists, such as Kesha, The Dixie Chicks, and Nicki Minaj. But the most exciting part is definitely the select lyrics, in spoken word form. Let’s see what we can learn from them.
‘I can’t talk to you when you’re like this’
The first lyrics Swift released on the playlist are as follows: “I can’t talk to you when you’re like this / Staring out the window like I’m not your favorite town / I’m New York City.”
Swift loves to talk about New York City, which has been her home base for years. However, many believe that she is spending a lot of her time in London these days, living with her boyfriend Joe Alwyn. That’s why our guess is that these lyrics are from the track “London Boy.”
‘Clearing the air’
Next up are the following lyrics: “Luck of the draw only draws the unlucky / And so, I became the butt of the joke / I wounded the good, and I trusted the wicked / Clearing the air, I breathed in the smoke.”
There is a lot of classic Taylor here: Twisting popular phrases, talking about her past mistakes and how she’s moved forward from them. There’s no obvious song title that points to these lyrics, but if we had to guess, we’d say these could come from the track “Afterglow,” given the “clearing the air” part.
‘Summer’s a knife’
Finally, we have the following: “Cut the headlights, summer’s a knife / I’m always waiting for you just to cut to the bone / Devil’s roll the dice, angel’s roll their eyes / And if I bleed, you’ll be the last.”
This was the most revealing set of lyrics yet. For one, the recording cuts off, though it sounds like Swift is about to finish with “last to know.” And as we know, nothing she does is by accident, so there must be a reason that we’re not hearing that part.
These lyrics were easier to place than the previous two. It would make sense if they came from the track titled, “Cruel Summer.” However, they might also fit with track 10, titled, “Death By a Thousand Cuts.” We’ll just have to see.
Will we get any more lyrics before ‘Lover’?
As the countdown to Lover’s release looms, will Swift update the playlist to include any more lyrics? We’re guessing not, especially since she already gifted us with a YouTube live event plus the music video for the single “Lover.” But then again, we’ve been wrong before. Swift is always full of surprises.
