Amazon Prime: 5 New Original Shows Coming This Fall
Amazon is once again expanding its slate of original TV content. The company is set to debut a slew of new scripted series on its video streaming service this fall, including Woody Allen’s much-buzzed about show, Crisis in Six Scenes. Below, check out five new original shows coming to Amazon Prime this fall.
1. One Mississippi, September 9
Inspired by the life of comedian Tig Notaro, the semi-autobiographical comedy centers on Tig as she returns to her hometown in Mississippi after her mother’s untimely death. Though Tig initially returns home simply to sort out her mother’s affairs, the trip soon becomes a poignant and surprising exploration of family, childhood, and life after grief.
In addition to starring in the show, Tig also executive produces the comedy alongside Louis C.K. and screenwriter Diablo Cody, among others.
2. Fleabag, September 16
Created, written by, and starring Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the upcoming comedy follows a dry-witted, sexual, anger-riddled woman as she attempts to navigate modern living in London. The series is based on Waller-Bridge’s award-winning play of the same name and will reportedly feature a fair share of straight-into-the-camera “confessional” moments.
3. Crisis in Six Scenes, September 30
Details about Woody Allen’s highly-hyped new Amazon series have finally been revealed. The six-episode series takes place in the turbulent 1960s and revolves around a middle-class suburban family whose household is turned completely upside down when a guest visits. Allen, Elaine May, and Miley Cyrus co-star in the show.
4. Goliath, October 14
The legal drama (formerly titled Trial) stars Billy Bob Thornton as Billy McBride, a down-and-out lawyer working to fight the various injustices of the legal system. Set in Venice, California, the show follows Billy as he takes on a Goliath of a case against the CEO of an aerospace company defended by a powerful law firm. William Hurt, Maria Bello, and Olivia Thirlby will also co-star in the upcoming eight-episode freshman season.
5. Good Girls Revolt, October 28
Based on the true story that inspired Lynn Povich’s book The Good Girls Revolt, the upcoming hour-long series takes place in 1969 when a cultural revolution was sweeping through the whole world — except for newsrooms. The show follows a group of young female researchers who are simply being asked to be treated fairly at their jobs at the publication, News of the Week. Their request will spark major changes and upend marriages, careers, friendships, and personal lives.
Genevieve Angelson, Anna Camp, Erin Drake, Hunter Parrish, Jim Belushi, Joy Bryant, and Grace Gummer co-star in the show, which was picked up for a 10-episode freshman season after first airing as part of Amazon’s pilot program last year.
