America’s 5 Favorite Movie Stars of 2015

While everyone has their own list of favorite actors, there are a select few stars in the industry that seem to be beloved by crowds of all ages. Harris Poll surveyed 2,252 American adults online last December to find out exactly who ranks as the most popular movie stars in the U.S. this year. Unsurprisingly, the list is full of longtime Hollywood vets, like Clint Eastwood and Brad Pitt.

Though no women made the top five, three actresses did crack the top 10: Sandra Bullock came in sixth, Jennifer Lawrence was seventh, and Julia Roberts tied with Pitt at No. 9. Despite not appearing on the big screen since 2014,  Eastwood managed to nab the No. 8 spot of the list. But five stars managed to top the entire rest of Hollywood.  Below, check out America’s top five favorite actors of 2015.

Closing out the top half of the list is Han Solo himself, Harrison Ford. The actor moved up several spots from his No. 9 position in 2014. Between his long career in Hollywood and the Star Wars: The Force Awakens fever that took over the box office toward the end of the year, it’s no surprise that the star (who polled especially well among generation Xers) once again landed one of the top spots in the ranking this year.

4. John Wayne

The late Wayne appeared in his last film in 1976, but he clearly still holds a strong place in moviegoers’ hearts. The actor was named the fourth favorite movie star of 2015, despite that he hasn’t appeared in a movie in decades. According to Harris Poll, the hero of Westerns like The Searchers, Rio Bravo, and Stagecoach proved especially popular among Americans age 70 or older. He was also this year’s top favorite among men.

3. Denzel Washington

Washington’s last film, 2014’s The Equalizer, wasn’t a huge commercial success, but the actor’s previous hits clearly reign supreme in the minds of audiences everywhere. The actor was named the third favorite movie star of the year. That’s down a couple of spots from his position at No. 1 in 2014, but still pretty high on the list.

2. Johnny Depp

After a slew of not-so-well-received films, Depp made a comeback last year with an acclaimed performance as real-life mobster James “Whitey” Bulger in the crime drama Black Mass. His portrayal, along with the strength of his past cult favorite roles (Edward Scissorhands, Captain Jack Sparrow), has once again landed him a spot on this year’s list of favorite stars. After landing at No. 4 in the ranking in 2014, Depp jumped several spots up to No. 2 this year.

1. Tom Hanks

Is there any more universally loved actor than Hanks? Between his stellar acting and his reputation as one of the nicest guys in Hollywood, it’s no surprise that Hanks has been crowned 2015’s most favorite movie star. This will be his fourth time taking the top spot on the list, having previously nabbed No. 1 in 2002, 2004, 2005, and 2013. In 2014, Hanks slid to No. 5, probably because he didn’t release any new films that year. But with last year’s Bridge of Spies earning high critical praise, the actor is now once again back on top.
