Amy Poehler and Tina Fey may have hosted the Golden Globes for the last time, but that doesn’t mean the comedic duo is done teaming up. The teaser for their latest movie collaboration Sisters has just been released and from the looks of it, the two will continue to bring big laughs together on screen.
Directed by Jason Moore (Pitch Perfect) and written by Paula Pell (SNL, 30 Rock), the comedy stars the actresses as — you guessed it — a pair of sisters, who have become disconnected over the years. When they are summoned to their childhood home to clean out their bedroom before their parents sell the family house, they decide to throw one final high school-style party for their classmates. The party is thrown as a last ditch attempt to relive their glory days, but it ends up becoming a cathartic experience that the run-down adults really need. Fey is also on board to produce the comedy alongside Jay Roach (Meet the Parents), while Poehler serves as executive producer.
Viewers got their official first look at the movie in a brief clip, released just hours before Poehler and Fey took the stage at the Golden Globes ceremony this week. Though the teaser is only about 20 seconds long, there is no shortage of funny moments as the two get into all kinds of shenanigans. They dance, twirl batons, and enjoy a trip down memory lane in the house where they grew up, right down to donning their old clothes. The all-too-short clip ends with Poehler’s character getting awkwardly (but hilariously) insulted while at a nail salon.
It’s clear fans can expect Sisters to hold plenty of that biting humor we’ve come to expect from the duo, who have been successfully joining comedic forces for years now. Aside from their award ceremony hosting duties, the two worked together on NBC’s SNL – most notably, co-hosting the show’s famous Weekend Update (the first two-woman anchor team in the segment’s history). Although Poehler had a small role in 2004’s Mean Girls (which Fey wrote and starred in), their first true feature film collaboration came in 2008, with the comedy Baby Mama. Sisters will mark the first time the two have co-starred in a movie since then and moviegoers are already looking forward to seeing the actresses take on the big screen together once again.
Sisters is just one of many projects on Poehler’s and Fey’s jam-packed schedules. While audiences may be eager to see them team up again, both stars also have plenty of individual projects on their plates. Poehler is next set to appear in the last season of NBC’s Parks and Recreation and is also lending her voice to the character of Joy in Pixar’s upcoming animated comedy, Inside Out (due out later this year). Meanwhile, Fey is busy working as a creator and producer on the upcoming comedy series, The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, which was recently picked up for two full seasons by Netflix (the first of which will be come available for streaming this spring). She is also teaming up with Disney to develop a still-untitled witch-themed movie.
Sisters is currently scheduled to hit theaters next Christmas.
