Amy Schumer and Oprah Have This 1 Thing In Common

Amy Schumer and Oprah Winfrey seem like complete opposites. Though both women have been outspoken advocates for women’s rights, their delivery couldn’t be more different. Schumer is a raunchy comedian with a dirty sense of humor, a ton of stand-up specials, and R-rated comedies under her belt. Meanwhile, Oprah has worked as a talk show host, actress, philanthropist, and inspirational guide for many many decades.

However, as the two women recently discovered during an episode of Oprah’s SuperSoul Conversations, they actually have one major thing in common, and not anything that you’d expect.

Being yourself

Oprah and Schumer have both amassed such big followings because of their authenticity. By simply being themselves, and doing what they love, they’ve touched so many lives. Oprah explained,  “I know that just being yourself was enough to bring the warrior to the world.”

Schumer added, “I just wanted to perform and make people laugh, and then I realized people are paying attention, and you have this opportunity to be a voice for women, and I did my best to rise to that.”

As a comedian in a male-dominated space who speaks openly about sex, relationships, and her relationship with her body, Schumer has advocated for women and allowed them to live boldly.

Oprah praised her for her work saying, “You are a modern-day warrior woman. You have actually changed the way, so many women perceive themselves and their lives. You have done that ― through your work, through your art, through yourself.”

A massive responsibility

Though Schumer does feel an obligation towards women, she doesn’t feel apprehensive about it. Nor does she let it weigh her down when she’s navigating her life.

She explained to Oprah, “There’s no fear because you really trust your intentions and your potential, which is what I want for [I Feel Pretty]. That’s what we both want for women, is for them to get out of their own way and have the tools to live up to their own potential without anything holding them back.”

Despite their massive careers, it turns out that both Oprah and Schumer share a similar character trait, and quite frankly its shocking. Though both women seemingly handle the spotlight and all that comes with it with ease. They are actually both introverted.

During their SuperSoul Conversations, Oprah asked, “I was so thrilled to realize ― you know how you and I are most alike?” Schumer replied, “Let me guess. You’re an introvert.”

The duo exchanged high fives upon coming to that realization.

Not only did the I Feel Pretty star and the media mogul bond over being introverts, they also have a favorite hiding place when they need a break from the people around them. Oprah revealed, “I’ve been at parties where I have to get up and leave, and I’m just in the bathroom.”

Schumer wholeheartedly agreed by saying, “I love the bathroom. Love to hide in the bathroom.”

The plight of celebrity

Though being a celebrity seems ultra glamorous, and both Schumer and Oprah seem to take everything that comes at them in stride, it takes a much bigger toll on them then one would expect.

The Girl With the Lower Back Tattoo writer explained it best when she said, “I think when you’re so giving of yourself and your mind and everything, you need to take a break.”

Still, some celebrities truly are extroverts, which make sense because they get their energy from being around people. Oprah explained that her BFF, journalist Gayle King, is actually an extrovert which is why their friendship is so balanced.

She explained, “She is a true extrovert in that she gets energy from people, she feeds off of it, and I get sucked dry.” Honestly, we’re siding with Oprah and Schumer here.
