Andy Cohen Spills About Behind the Scenes at Real Housewives Reunions

Bravo producer Andy Cohen has taken viewers behind the scenes at Real Housewives reunions with his lively Instagram Live chats with pal Anderson Cooper.

Cohen dished with Cooper about the controversial Real Housewives of Beverly Hills reunion, revealing that Lisa Vanderpump didn’t show up but Camille Grammer did attend. He also went further with spilling some tea on Twitter.

He dished on Ask a Bravolebrity answering fan’s questions about what happens behind the scenes at a Real Housewives reunion. This includes what happens with the cast members, but also with Cohen himself.

Can Cohen remain neutral during reunions?

Cohen has been accused of siding with certain Housewives, especially at reunion shows. But he says that isn’t his intention. “It is getting harder,” he admitted. “I feel like I used to say absolutely nothing, and now people sometimes say I take sides or say too much.”

But he says he tries to walk that fine line, even though it gets a little tough. “But I really try to let everyone’s voice be heard and try to mediate if I can?”

What’s the biggest issue with bathroom breaks?

Multi-part reunions mean long days of filming for Real Housewives reunions. While bathroom breaks are inevitable, Cohen says once one lady suddenly has to leave for the bathroom, all hell breaks loose. “I get very upset because it’s a very long day,” he says. “And you’re sitting with six or seven women. Someone invariably has to pee and they are like, ‘I can’t hold it anymore.’ And I’m like, ‘If they go to the bathroom we’re going to take a break.'”

The problem is that once one cast member leaves for the bathroom, the other women insist on the glam team to touch-up hair and makeup. He says that means 15 hair and makeup artists will descend upon the stage to do touch-ups. “I’m like you just were touched up an hour ago,” Cohen said.

How are the ‘Real Housewives’ chosen?

Some potential cast members have dished about doing several in-person or Skype interviews with casting directors only to not be cast. “It’s a mix between the production company, myself and the executives at Bravo,” Cohen explains. “We either have casting directors in each city or we go to the women and say do you know anyone.”

He says new cast members typically come from current cast members. “Usually the casting directors find people like, ‘Oh I know Tinsley’ or ‘I know Lisa Rinna’,” he says.

Which ‘Housewife’ gave Cohen the best baby gift (and which celebrity does he want to join a cast)?

Cohen didn’t hesitate when asked if he could have any celebrity be a Housewife. “Chrissy Teigen,” he said looking hopeful. Fans also wanted to know about his “All Housewives” baby shower too. Who gave him the best gift?

While it wasn’t easy to point to just one gift, Cohen cited some of his favorites. “Kyle [Richards] gave me this high chair that’s really great. Lisa Rinna gave me a bunny,” he said. “The Potomac Housewives gave me crazy labels! Gucci, Gucci Gucci! Potomac got the labels.”
