Actress and activist Angelina Jolie has six children with her ex-husband, Brad Pitt. When they were together, Brangelina, as they were known, kept their kids out of the spotlight when possible, but this proved difficult given their high-profile status. Since the separation, we’ve seen even less of them. So when Jolie began to bring her kids out to film screenings more recently, we took note.
Who are Angelina Jolie’s kids?
A refresher, for anyone not familiar: Jolie adopted a child, Maddox, from Cambodia, before she and Pitt got together. He later adopted Maddox himself. The couple went on to adopt two more children: Zahara, from Ethiopia and Pax, from Vietnam.
The couple also has three biological children: Shiloh and twins Knox and Vivienne. All of the kids have the same last name: Jolie-Pitt. This has not changed post-split.
When did Pitt and Jolie get divorced?
The infamous couple reportedly got together during the filming of their movie Mr. and Mrs. Smith in 2005. However, they were not engaged until
Brangelina announced their separation in 2016. Jolie then filed for divorce, but it has not officially gone through at this time. Custody of the Jolie-Pitt children has been the primary hold up preventing the divorce from becoming official.
This is what Jolie has said since their split
Divorce is never easy, especially when it’s a long drawn out process taking place in front of the entire world. Though she is a very private person, Jolie has spoken a bit about her life since the separation, touching on her own health struggles.
Of course, Jolie’s primary focus is on her children. She told Vanity Fair in 2017, “I do not want my children to be worried about me. I think it’s very important to cry in the shower and not in front of them. They need to know that everything’s going to be all right, even when you’re not sure it is.”
Jolie made two appearances with her children over the past week
Jolie has remained out of the spotlight for the most part over the last couple of years. However, she has continued making appearances related to her duties as a UN Ambassador, as well as a few red carpets here and there. On Feb 21, 2019, Jolie and her four eldest children arrived at the Opening Night of MoMA’s Doc Fortnight Premiere of Prune Nourry’s Serendipity striking a silly pose with Nourry and Rajendra Roy.
Just four days later, on Feb. 25, 2019, Jolie and all six Jolie-Pitt children walked the red carpet at the premiere of The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind. The film, which was directed by Chiwetel Ejiofor, will be available on Netflix on March 1. Since we don’t get a chance to see them very often, it was interesting to see how grown up all of the kids are, now ages 17, 15, 14, 12, and 10.
Now that they’re getting older, Jolie considers her children more than just kids; they’re her friends. “They really help me so much. We’re really such a unit,” she told the New York Times in 2017. “They’re the best friends I’ve ever had. Nobody in my life has ever stood by me more.”
