Another ‘Avengers: Endgame’ Star May Not Be Done With the MCU Just Yet — And It’s Not Captain America

Avengers: Endgame wrapped things up for some of the biggest names in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.) and Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) gave their lives to defeat Thanos (Josh Brolin) in the epic crossover while Captain America (Chris Evans) hung up his shield to live out his days in peace with Peggy Carter. There has been plenty of speculation that some of these superheroes will return to the MCU in the near future, and an inside source claims that one Endgame character will definitely be back in action – but it’s not Captain America.

Is Cap done with the MCU?

Cap’s story ended on a good note in Avengers: Endgame after he decided to remain in the past and live out his days with the love of his life. Although this was a satisfying way to conclude his journey, fans have been hoping he will eventually return to the MCU.

Evans seemed firm in his decision to leave Marvel behind, but the actor has not ruled out reprising the role in a future project. The only catch is that Evans does not want to return unless the story is important enough to bring him back.

There have been a lot of theories about how Marvel might bring Cap back into the fold, and one of the more popular ideas is exploring what happened when he returned the Infinity Stones to their rightful places in Avengers: Endgame.

Other potential storylines include giving Evans a cameo in Falcon and the Winter Soldier. But since the series is set in the current timeline, Evans would have to appear as an old man.

Although it appears as though Evans’ time in the MCU is over, an inside source claims that the studio is thinking about bringing one of his Endgame co-stars back for another run.

This ‘Avengers: Endgame’ star will return to the MCU

Red Skull’s (Ross Marquand) appearance in Avengers: Infinity War surprised many Marvel fans. The character had not appeared since his introduction in Captain America: The First Avenger and fans had lost hope that he would ever pop back up.

Turns out, Red Skull had been guarding the Soul Stone this entire time. With the character appearing in both Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, an inside source told We Got This Covered that Marvel has big plans for the villain in a future project.

While Red Skull and Steve Rogers battled it out in The First Avenger, the insider claims that Red Skull will go toe-to-toe with the MCU’s new Captain America, Sam Wilson. It is unclear when Sam and Red Skull might meet, but it could take place in Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

That said, Marvel would have a lot of explaining to do if Red Skull just popped up in the series. With Red Skull being the keeper of the Soul Stone, the studio would have to reveal how he got out of his duties on Vormir and returned to Earth.

Marquand opens up about the return of Red Skull

A lot of questions remain about Red Skull’s future in the MCU, but Marquand recently opened up about reprising the role for the third time. According to Epic Stream, Marquand, who replaced Hugo Weaving as Red Skull in the Infinity War Saga, revealed that he would love to return as Red Skull and even offered a way to make it happen.

“My point when I said that was just that any of these characters can come back. I think when Doctor Strange established there are a million different threads and multiverses now, there are certain timelines where Red Skull is certainly free,” he stated.

The actor added that after Thanos took the Soul Stone from Vormir, Red Skull was released from his duties. From that point on, the character was free to do whatever he wanted.

We do not know how that changed after an earlier version of Thanos was defeated, but there is a chance that there is a Red Skull running around in an alternate universe. The multiverse will be the main focus in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, so anything is possible at this point.
