Are Demi Lovato and Taylor Swift Feuding?
Demi Lovato and Taylor Swift are two famous singers who have millions of adoring fans. However, their followers might notice that the two stars have not exactly been on good terms in the past few years. So what is going on with Lovato and Swift?
How did they end up becoming at odds with another and are the two of them really feuding? Here’s what we know.
Demi Lovato and Taylor Swift used to be friends
Demi Lovato and Taylor Swift became friends with each other in the late 2000’s, when both of them were becoming more widely known. They were so close, in fact, that Lovato said Swift was one of the few people who actually supported her after rehab.
“I lost friends when I came out of treatment because I realised who wasn’t there for me,” Lovato told Access Hollywood. “I can list about five or six people that called me and made sure that I was okay. Taylor Swift sent me an email saying, ‘Hey, I don’t know if you have a phone right now, but are you okay?'”
Lovato and Swift started drifting apart
It’s not clear what caused Lovato and Swift to stop being friends, but in the early 2010s, they seemed to no longer be as close as before.
A source told RadarOnline that Joe Jonas might have been a reason for their rift. Swift dated him first in 2008, and after their breakup, she proceeded to slam him publicly. Lovato dated Jonas in 2010, and while this relationship also ended quickly, Lovato remained on better terms with Jonas, which put her at odds with Swift.
The insider said: “Taylor and Demi do not associate with each other because of all of the drama Taylor put Joe Jonas through after they split and she wrote songs about him. Joe is Demi’s best friend.”
Some onlookers also believe that Selena Gomez might have gotten between Lovato and Swift. Gomez and Lovato had been friends since they were children, but for reasons that are not known, Gomez stopped hanging out with Lovato and became closer with Swift.
Demi Lovato began calling out Taylor Swift in 2016
In 2016, Taylor Swift made a donation of $250,000 to help singer Kesha and her legal battle against Dr. Luke. However, Demi Lovato — who had also been vocal about her support for Kesha — criticized Swift for not doing more.
“Take something to Capitol Hill or actually speak out about something and then I’ll be impressed,” Lovato wrote on Twitter.
Later on, Lovato called out Swift for her privileged upbringing: “Not everyone has 250k to just give to people. Would love to but I didn’t grow up with money and def haven’t made as much as her. At least I speak up about s–t that’s uncomfortable to talk about rather than trying to be politically correct 24/7.”
Over the next few years, Lovato also criticized Swift for her “Bad Blood” music video and her “squad” of Victoria Secret models.
Lovato is siding with Scooter Braun in his feud with Swift
In June 2019, Swift started a public feud with Scooter Braun when he bought her old label. Swift called Braun a “bully” on social media, and the feud prompted other celebrities to pick sides.
Lovato is managed by Braun, so she stood up for him on Instagram. “I have dealt with bad people in this industry and Scooter is not one of them,” Lovato said. “He’s a good man.”
Are Lovato and Swift feuding?
After Lovato stood up for Scooter Braun, fans believed that she and Swift were definitely enemies.
However, things recently became a less clear when Lovato was seen praising Swift’s new album. Lovato took to social media to share that the track “Cruel Summer” from Swift’s latest album was “a jam.”
Lovato also posted a message regarding her rumored feud. “Life’s too short for women not to support other women… especially when women release great music,” she said before adding “great job @taylorswift.”
In response, Swift shared with followers that Lovato’s message “put the biggest smile on my face.”
This seems to be a sign that perhaps Lovato and Swift’s relationship could be moving in a more positive direction. At this point, only time will tell whether they can be friends like before or not.
