Are ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Stars Ellen Pompeo and Jesse Williams Friends in Real Life?
Ellen Pompeo and Jesse Williams have portrayed the characters of Dr. Meredith Grey and Dr. Jackson Avery on ABC’s long-running medical drama, Grey’s Anatomy, for years. Does their relationship extend outside of the show? Many fans have often wondered if Pompeo and Williams are friends in real life.
Jesse Williams says Ellen Pompeo isn’t like Meredith Gray
Williams discussed the relationship between himself and Pompeo earlier this year on Facebook Watch’s Buzzfeed series, Profile. According to Williams, Pompeo differs from her Grey’s Anatomy character in real-life.
“I mean, she’s really not like that character at all. She’s kind of a street chick,” he said on the show.
He went on to explain that Pompeo has “seen a lot of s**t.”
Williams said, “I don’t want to speak out of turn, but she’s actually surprisingly kind of down. He also joked that she “almost stabbed [him] once.”
Ellen Pompeo and Jesse Williams take vacations together
Pompeo and Williams are such great friends, they take vacations together. He told Ashley Ford on Profile, that they’ve “taken vacations together with the kids” and noted that their friendship was “really cool, like, it’s not a forced thing.”
The duo’s vacation history is actually well documented as they have shared photos from them in the past. They went to Maui back in 2016 and Pompeo posted a photo on Instagram with the caption, “When you vacation with @ijessewilliams and he’s afraid to lose to you in a paddle board race.”
The co-stars have applauded each other on numerous occasions
Both Pompeo and Williams have publicly applauded each other on several occasions. In 2018, Pompeo praised Williams’ parenting amid his pending custody battle.
She posted on Instagram, “Shoutout to all the dads doing their part holding it down showing up for their babies… @ijessewilliams.”
It is always good to see when people can be both friends on camera and behind-the-scenes! From what we can tell it’s great to know that Pompeo and Williams are there for each other when and where it counds.
