Are Josh and Anna Duggar Returning to ‘Counting On?’ Fans Think This Instagram Post Holds a Clue

Most Duggar fans believe that Josh Duggar was banned from the TLC network for life. After all, the scandal with the eldest Duggar son is the reason their hit show, 19 Kids and Counting, got canceled in the first place.

The spinoff show documenting the lives of the grown-up Duggar children, called Counting On, deliberately left Josh out of filming. Sure, Anna and the kids had occasional appearances – after all, they did nothing wrong. But Josh was never on the show.

There’s speculation that might be changing soon. A post on Anna’s Instagram account revealed one very interesting detail that may mean Josh Duggar is making a television comeback soon.

Why did Josh Duggar get kicked off the show?

First, a quick refresher: Josh Duggar was involved in a few scandals that ultimately led to the show cancellation. The first thing that happened was the media found police reports alleging that Josh Duggar molested several young girls, including his own sisters. He was never arrested or convicted of a crime, but rather voluntarily entered treatment with a certified counselor.

These incidents date back to 2002, though they didn’t become public knowledge until years later. The show 19 Kids and Counting was canceled after all the negative publicity and when advertisers started pulling their ads. To top it off, a Gawker report found that Josh Duggar was cheating on his wife and had an account with the adultery website Ashley Madison. Despite his infidelity, his wife stuck by him.

Was Josh Duggar banned by the TLC network?

How the show 19 Kids and Counting wound up getting canceled is a tricky thing to determine. For one thing, the Duggars fought a legal battle over whether the records should have been released at all. They maintained that the records should haven been sealed since Josh was a juvenile when the incidents occurred.

The scandal broke in 2015 and controversy waged on for a few months. Ultimately, TLC released a statement that said, “After thoughtful consideration, TLC and the Duggar family have decided to not move forward with 19 Kids and Counting.” There was no mention of Josh Duggar or his involvement in future projects (even though everyone knew why it happened).

Why do people think Josh Duggar might appear on ‘Counting On?’

Josh Duggar stayed out of the spotlight ever since the show got canceled. However, he’s been making more and more appearances with the family, showing up in photos on social media more often. Josh’s wife Anna Duggar has had cameos on Counting On but is not a focus of the show.

The Instagram post that spurred the rumors shows Josh Duggar helping his children with a scavenger hunt. Eagle-eyed viewers noticed a cameraman standing in the background, which could indicate the clip will be used on the new season of Counting On.

Of course, the clip could be edited for the show, cutting out Josh entirely in post-production. But since Josh was never formally banned from the TLC network, fans are questioning if maybe this is the beginning of his big TV comeback.

Josh and Anna were recently in the news discussing how excited they were to expand their family soon. They currently have five children and are looking forward to welcoming a fifth. No doubt Anna’s pregnancy and a new baby would make excellent content for the show.

Stay tuned to see what happens! The new season of Counting On premieres on February 11, 2019.
