Are Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton More Alike Than People Think?

With all the publicity sounding Meghan Markle, one might forget about all the attention Kate Middleton used to get. You might look at the two royal wives and see all their differences, but the truth is they have a lot in common.

Of course, they both married into the royal family, but more than that Meghan and Kate are more alike than people think. Sure one was born in England and the other was born in America, but they are both well-educated, strong women with a knack for dealing with the press. That’s a strong skill to have when dealing with the paparazzi.

It would stand to reason that Prince Harry and Prince William would choose women with these strong similarities because they both had Princess Diana as a mother and role model. Not only are Meghan and Kate alike, but they share some of the same strengths as the late Princess. Here are just a few ways they are similar.

Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton have a strong sense of community

Before Meghan was on the cover of every magazine, she was volunteering her time. Giving back to her community mattered well before she met Prince Harry.

Glamour reports that she said: “I started working at a soup kitchen in Skid Row of Los Angeles when I was 13 years old, and the first day I felt really scared. I was young, and it was rough and raw down there, and though I was with a great volunteer group, I just felt overwhelmed. I remember one of my mentors told me, ‘Life is about putting others’ needs above your own fears.'”

Now that she is a royal, she can use that experience to help others in need. Part of her royal duties includes giving back to the community. This sense of responsibility is something she and Kate have in common

Both women spent time giving back before they were expected to. They might have married into the royal family, but they are still very much concerned with the people. They also seem to excel when working with children, and the terminally ill. Both women seem to have the same compassion that Diana had.

Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle set style trends everywhere they go

If Kate is photographed wearing a dress, that dress sells out within days. Fashion designers everywhere want to dress her because she is the best walking advertisement around. So is Meghan.

Both women set trends and break styling boundaries no matter what the occasion is. Even though the two royal women have different styles, they both know how to put an outfit together. Whether they are dressing up to meet with heads of state, or they are resting on maternity leave, women all over the world want to copy their look.

If you look back at some of the trends Diana started, you will remember how popular she made short hair, bright clothing and, of course, square necklines. If you are going to be photographed everywhere you go, you might want your style to be on point too.

It might seem like Kate is straight edge and follows all the royal rules, but that’s not true. Before Harry and Meghan started stealing the show, Kate and William were the centers of the world’s attention

Kate and William met at their university. That might not seem like a big deal, but traditionally he would have been expected to marry someone that would benefit the monarchy. Instead, he married for love, friendship, and respect. Kate also says that she and the children come along on trips. Traditionally the kids would be left behind.

On the other hand, Meghan breaks the rules because she wants to include some of her American traditions into her new royal life. For example, she is the first to have a baby shower and she insisted on traveling with her husband, even though she is pregnant.

When it comes to breaking the rules and making change, Kate and Megan seem to have a lot in common. Let’s not forget that both women were also commoners when they fell in love and married their princes.
