Are Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Planning On Taking a Page Out of Oprah’s Playbook to Make Millions?

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will be looking for ways to earn a living now that their exit from the royal family is official. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex recently relocated to Los Angeles to set up their new base. While Harry and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, have plenty of ways they can make money, one source believes they might take a page out of Oprah’s playbook — a move that could net them tens of millions.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry file for trademark

As part of their exit agreement, Harry and Meghan deactivated their main charitable arm, Sussex Royal, which they launched last year. They recently revealed that their new charity is called Archewell and that they will not make any major moves until after the coronavirus pandemic is over.

With the world facing the current crisis, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have not revealed much about their new foundation. Aside from the meaning of the word Archewell — a play on their son’s name, Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, and a Greek word meaning “a course of action” — they have not said anything about what they plan on doing with the charity.

They have, however, applied for a trademark that covers live shows, merchandise, health services, and recorded performances. Royal experts believe the trademark application might reveal what Prince Harry and Meghan Markle plan on doing with their new brand in the coming months.

Oprah raises millions on speak tour

At the beginning of the year, Oprah launched her 2020 Vision Tour that featured 9 stops across the country. According to Express, Oprah made over $30 million in ticket sales alone. Profits soared to over $80 million after sales from programs, souvenirs, DVDs, and books were taken into account.

Oprah’s tour, which included a sponsorship with Weight Watchers, featured live interviews with some of Hollywood’s top celebrities, including Lady Gaga, Michelle Obama, Jennifer Lopez, and Kate Hudson.

Each one of the shows started with a morning dance class followed by a session that updated people on their physical and mental health.

Oprah then charged attendees lunch, which varied between $50 and $250, depending on the package. Each stop also featured a different lineup of celebrities, with Oprah billing it as a “day-long party” for people “celebrating all that you are.”

Will Prince Harry and Meghan Markle follow Oprah’s lead?

We do not know for sure if Harry and Meghan will follow in Oprah’s footsteps, but public speaking is a viable option for them to make money. There are plenty of celebrities who earn millions on speaking tours, and Harry already has experience speaking as a member of the royal family.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are also close friends with Oprah, who has reportedly become one of their top advisors in recent weeks.

An inside source claims that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle want to branch out on their own but look to Oprah as a “role model.”

“They intend to be their own brand and they wouldn’t deliberately copy anyone,” a source stated. “But Oprah is a great role model and there isn’t anything she doesn’t know about or hasn’t tried in the entertainment industry.

The source added that Prince Harry has been forced to learn a lot about the industry, especially coming from a background in charity. Whatever happens with their new plan, the insider claims that the Sussexes trust Oprah’s “sound judgment.”

Are the Duke and Duchess of Sussex planning a tell-all?

Aside from public speaking, there are reports that Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are going to do a tell-all interview with Oprah that will net them $1 million. According to Page Six, a source claims that Meghan wants people to see what is really going down behind-the-scenes and that Harry is open to the idea.

“Sources close to the Duchess revealed Oprah Winfrey is a favorite to quiz Meghan on her bombshell exit with Harry from ‘the Firm,’” the insider dished.

The source noted that Harry and Meghan would donate their earnings from the interview to a charity of their choice. At the top of their list is the National Health Service, though they could also use the money to jumpstart their new foundation.

The news comes after Meghan Markle narrated a new movie for Disney titled Elephant. The former actress lent her voice to the project prior to her exit from the royal family. She donated all of her earnings to a charity in Africa called Elephants Without Borders.
