Are Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Really Taking Privacy Issues Too Far?
Being members of the British Royal Family, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are entitled to privacy, right? But how much, is too much? At which point does the level of guardedness turn from sensible to silly? Anyone who follows the royal family can understand why the Duke and Duchess would want to do their best to maintain their privacy.
After all, being one of the most-watched families in the world is bound to come with issues. But, are Meghan Markle and Prince Harry really starting to take their relationship with privacy too far?
Archie is kept out of the spotlight
Think about the events surrounding the birth of the Duke and Duchesses’ firstborn. In the past, other royals have allowed the public an insider look to the newest member of the family. Not the Sussexes.
They went about regulating the hospital stay and facilitating the world’s introduction to Archie with such ferocity it was intriguing.
For example, when Prince William and Kate Middleton gave birth to their children, the world was clued in on their names and even first photos early on. Markle and Prince Harry didn’t share a single picture of Archie’s face until Father’s Day, more than a month after he was born!
The royal couple has continued to maintain this level of secrecy with Archie’s life, but it’s for a good reason. Both parents want Archie to lead as normal a life as possible. To maintain their level of desired privacy, they will allow photos during special occasions. In exchange, they want to be left alone.
“The arrangement has been that in exchange for an occasional photo on birthdays on special occasions they will be left alone and this is obviously likely to continue. Frogmore Cottage is totally secure.” – Fitzwilliams
While keeping little Archie out of the public eye makes complete sense, it’s not something the public was pleased about. It doesn’t help that Markle and Prince Harry have extended this level of privacy to other more nonsensical areas of their lives.
Prince Harry and Meghan refuse to reveal their dog’s name
You read that right! The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have been keeping info about their new puppy from the public.
While it seems weird and is, they at least aren’t the first royal couple to keep their pet a secret. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge also opted to keep info surrounding their cocker spaniel Lupo under wraps.
No one quite understood why, but the press was going crazy trying to learn the name of the precious pooch. Can you imagine press secretaries pulling their hair out because they don’t know the name of a pet?
Do they really have privacy issues?
Take a moment to consider the lifestyle of Markle and Prince Harry. You can easily understand why they would want to do everything in their power to stay out of the public eye. The press tormented Prince Harry’s mother during her divorce, Markle was objectified and bullied, and he certainly missed out on his fair share of privacy growing up.
Why wouldn’t they want to push the press out of their lives as much as possible?
Not to mention the pair have already experienced some pretty terrifying breaches of privacy. Splash News took a helicopter up above their residence to capture pictures of the sought after couple. Prince Harry and his Princess ended up having to flee their home.
Assaults don’t just come from the air, though. They’ve even had to enact rules and beef up security to deal with tourists roaming the grounds trying to get a peek into Frogmore.
With issues like those arising, one can’t blame them for being so secretive. But, do they really need to go out of the way to keep their new puppy out of the limelight? Probably not, but it looks like the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are going to take extra precautions to maintain their fairytale life with or without the public’s approval.
