Are Meghan Markle’s Thanksgiving Plans Proof She’s Homesick?

When Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s relationship started to get serious, she packed up her Toronto home and made the move all the way across the pond to the United Kingdom. Prior to that, she left her hometown of Los Angeles when she landed the role of Rachel Zane on the hit show Suits. While she is no stranger to relocating, it is not like she simply moved across town! Considering how Duchess Meghan is a California girl at heart, it is likely quite a shock adjusting to life in England — a completely different environment than the one she is used to.

Lately, the Duchess of Sussex has been going through a pretty rough time due to being in the spotlight so intensely. The British tabloids have been relentless, and she has been open about ways all of the pressure is affecting her. To top things off, her mom, Doria Ragland, still lives in Los Angeles. It can’t be easy being so far away from her mother, especially during this stressful time and maybe her recent decision about how to spend Thanksgiving is proof she’s missing home a little more than usual these days.

Back when she was a Hollywood celebrity, Markle still attracted attention, but not nearly on the same level as she is now. Every move she makes is often intensely scrutinized, and not always in a good way. In fact, Meghan and Harry have been quite open about the fact that they have had enough of all of the drama and they are taking a six-week break from royal duties. According to Her, the Duchess of Sussex has been having a hard time transitioning into the next phase of her life as a working royal, wife, and mother, as she is constantly being hounded by the press no matter what.

Meghan and Harry are thinking of moving to California

In order to escape the watchful eyes of the media, Meghan and Harry have been considering relocating outside of the United Kingdom altogether. At first, they were considering moving to Africa, and then they tossed around the idea of calling Canada their new home. Now, it is being said that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are looking to come to the United States, Los Angeles to be more precise. It makes sense that Meghan might seek comfort in a familiar place and one could argue that the royal couple might be met with a much warmer welcome in the States. Chances are, she is looking forward to being back in the United States, and more importantly, so close to her mother.

Are Meghan Markle’s Thanksgiving plans proof that she is homesick?

As if Meghan weren’t already showing enough signs that she is missing California, her Thanksgiving plans just revealed how homesick she might actually be. Although it was originally thought that Meghan, Harry, and baby Archie would be hopping on a plane and making the trip to Los Angeles for the holiday, we recently found out that things have changed.

According to Observer, the Sussexes are planning to stay in Windsor, and her mother Doria will be joining them at their home at Frogmore Cottage. Not only is it much easier for Doria to make the long trip to England instead of having her daughter and son-in-law bring their young son to visit her, but Meghan is also planning to possibly volunteer at a homeless shelter on Thanksgiving day in London.

This is a sure sign that she is missing home, as volunteering is something that she was very active in when she lived in California and a traditionally American thing to do on the holiday. Although it is wonderful that the duchess is planning on spending the day helping others, we hope that she can overcome her homesickness and enjoy the holiday season.
