Are Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Moving to Africa? Buckingham Palace Responds
The biggest news surrounding Prince Harry and Meghan Markle has been the upcoming arrival of their first child, but over the weekend, buzz about the couple making plans to move to Africa made the rounds. Buckingham Palace shot down the rumors before they got legs, however.
Reports swirled about the Duke and Duchess of Sussex
Prince Harry and Markle have just moved to their new home at Frogmore Cottage as they await the baby’s arrival, but a new report from the Sunday Times claimed they would be making another move.
According to the Sunday Times, Prince Harry and Markle have been planning to move to Africa for two or three years to “combine some work on behalf of the Commonwealth along with charity work and a role promoting Britain.”
According to a source, they were still in the “brainstorming” stage of planning with one insider calling the move a “likely scenario.”
Is Prince William and Prince Harry’s feud part of the decision?
Naturally, with news of a possible big move in Prince Harry and Markle’s future, some outlets tied the rumored Prince William and Prince Harry feud to the claim. The report pointed to Prince William wanting the Duke and Duchess of Sussex “as far away as possible” to return to the spotlight to William and his wife, Kate Middleton.
The insider shared: “In some ways it would suit William to get his brother out of the country for a few years and Meghan as far away as possible.”
A palace source told The Sunday Times: “There have been various ideas floated for them to take on a job abroad, such as governor-general of Australia or Canada, wherever.” The insider added: “The trouble is that you effectively set them up as king and queen of a whole separate country, and 24-hour media means that Australia is not as far away as it used to be.”
Were Prince Harry and Markle pushed to Frogmore Cottage?
Despite the couple settling in to their new home at Frogmore Cottage, a source close to the couple maintains that “Meghan and Harry feel they have been cut adrift,” adding, “They sent them down to Frogmore to try to keep them out of the limelight for a bit. This is doomed to fail. They are worried that Harry and Meghan are going to establish a totally separate enterprise that nobody can get under control.”
The source further noted: “There are discussions in palace circles about how do we harness Harry and Meghan and this tremendous global attention they get. How do we draw them back, because laying down the law and ticking them off doesn’t work at all.”
Buckingham Palace responds
A spokesperson for Buckingham Palace responded to the rumors of Prince Harry and Markle moving abroad, telling Hello! magazine: “Any future plans for the Duke and Duchess are speculative at this stage. No decisions have been taken about future roles. The Duke will continue to fulfill his role as Commonwealth Youth Ambassador.”
