Are Prince William and Kate Middleton Strict Parents?
Prince William and Kate Middleton are the parents of three young children. And like any parents, they’ve likely established some ground rules that their children must follow. However, there is probably a lot more to Will and Kate’s parenting than just laying out a few ground rules. After all, they’re raising the next generation of royals. So, how strict are William and Kate as parents?
Will and Kate need to be strict to a certain extent
To say that Will and Kate are not strict parents almost wouldn’t make any sense. After all, their kids are royalty, and their oldest son will someday be the king. With that said, they definitely have a lot of rules they must instill in their children — but most of them come from royal tradition rather than Will and Kate’s parenting style. For example, the children must follow the royal rules in that their clothing always needs to always be appropriate, they must learn how to eat with proper etiquette and never finish a meal before the queen, and they must be on their absolute best behavior in public. And it’s up to Will and Kate to give them that proper upbringing.
Kate has been seen reprimanding the children at important events
While Louis is a bit too young to be reprimanded, George and Charlotte are old enough to throw tantrums in public — and they get a talking-to because of it. Kate has been seen on several occasions speaking to her children in what looks like a harsh tone, teaching them that they need to behave when they’re in front of people. Kate was seen reprimanding George at Pippa Middleton’s wedding when he started to get fussy. And when Charlotte threw a tantrum while the family was getting on a plane, Kate knelt down next to her and spoke to her about her behavior.
The parents do their best to adjust their children to the spotlight
While Kate and Will need to be strict because of their family’s reputation, they also understand that young children are going to have bad days — and their children are no different. Rather than shipping the kids off to every possible event, Will and Kate’s children only make an appearance for very important events (such as weddings, meeting their new baby brother, etc.). Actually, according to royal sources, the queen doesn’t even believe that young children should be in the spotlight at all. Will has said that he hasn’t even told George he will one day be king. “… Right now it’s just a case of keeping a secure, stable environment around him and showing as much love as I can as a father,” Will said in an interview.
Kate reportedly gets many of her parenting tips from two books
Kate may be royal, but she still needs to figure out parenting just like the rest of us. According to CaféMom, Kate relies on two parenting books to help raise her young kids: Positive Discipline: The First Three Years and The Happiest Toddler on the Block. The books have taught her techniques for reprimanding the children in a way that doesn’t negatively impact their self-esteem. With so many eyes on this little family at all times, it looks like Will and Kate are doing as best a job as they can.
