Are Queen Elizabeth II and Kate Middleton Becoming Best Friends and Leaving Meghan Markle Out?

If you’ve been paying attention to royal news lately, then you have probably heard of the rumors of the rift between Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle.

Some have said that Middleton is jealous of Markle for stealing the spotlight, while other more salacious rumors have alleged that this feud is due to the fact that Markle blamed Kate Middleton for Prince William’s supposed affair with Rose Hanbury.

However, none of this has been confirmed.

One thing that could possibly be causing a rift between the sister-in-laws, though, is their desire for Queen Elizabeth II’s approval. Both women want to be liked by their grandmother-in-law and it seems like one of them is always closer to her than the other at any given time.

Now that Markle is out of commission for a bit, healing from the birth of her firstborn, Archie Harrison Mountbatten Windsor, is Middleton getting closer to the Queen?

Middleton and the Queen wear coordinated outfits

Middleton loves working in gardens. After working on the Back to Nature Garden for the Chelsea Flower Show in London, she attended the second garden party of the year.

She wore an Alexander McQueen pink coat dress and a Juliette Botterill fascinator. She also wore a pair of Princess Diana’s earrings.

In coordination, Queen Elizabeth wore a light blue coat and a floral dress, which went with Middleton’s outfit.

What screams best friends more than matching outfits?

Who has the Queen liked more in the past?

It’s hard to say who the Queen normally prefers. She allows Middleton to borrow more of her jewelry. Though it is unclear whether Markle asks to wear her items and is denied or simply prefers to wear her own things.

The Queen and Middleton also never hesitate to get close. They were even seen sharing a blanket in the backseat of a car on the way to an event, which certainly seems friendly.

On the other hand, the Queen has made some effort with Markle as well.

On Markle’s first Christmas with the family, the Queen invited Markle’s mother, Doria Ragland, to come and spend the holiday with them. The Queen has never invited Middleton’s family to join them for Christmas. Ragland did not end up coming, in the end.

Markle also made appearances with the Queen much more quickly than Middleton did. Just four weeks after marrying Prince Harry, Markle and the Queen were seen out together.

The Queen’s affection for Markle

In addition to inviting Markle’s mother over for Christmas, the Queen has also been lenient with Markle in other ways. The former actress has broken more than one royal tradition, including not having her baby at the Lindo Wing of St. Mary’s Hospital. But it seems like the monarch is okay with letting Markle do things her own way within reason.

On the other hand, Middleton seems to be kept to the royal guidelines pretty strictly. This could be because Middleton’s husband, Prince William, is directly in line for the throne. He is second in line, while his brother Harry is sixth. So there is a lot more pressure on Middleton to be prim and proper than there is for Markle.
