Are Rachel and Monica Friends in Real Life?

During the late ’90s and early 2000s Ross, Rachel, Monica, Phoebe, Chandler, and Joey were everyone’s best friends. Every week, millions of viewers would tune in to watch one of the most popular sitcoms to ever hit TV. Now millions of new fans are watching the sitcom for the first time on Netflix.

The bond between Rachel Green (Jennifer Aniston) and Monica Geller (Courteney Cox) was one that was what you always looked for in a friendship. The two became friends in high school and reunited years later to form a long lasting friendship.

Naturally, fans want to know: “was the friendship between the actresses that played these characters real and are they still friends now?”

When it came to choosing a Godmother for her daughter, Cox didn’t have to think long about who she wanted to be there for her. The Cougar Town star named Aniston as her daughter Coco’s godmother.

But Aniston isn’t just a godmother in name, she’s an active part of Coco’s life. The Rumor Has It star has babysat for Cox in the past and boasts that she’s a “great babysitter.”

The star admits to letting her play in her clothes and rummage through her jewelry box. Now that Coco is older, the two have developed a close bond.

They recently shared a terrifying experience

To celebrate her 50th birthday, Aniston invited her friend to join her on a trip to Cabo San Lucas. But shortly after the plane took off, Cox, whose father is a pilot, realized that something was wrong.

During a recent interview, the actress revealed there was a very loud pop when the plane took off. The plane had to fly around for four hours burning off fuel before it was able to do an emergency landing.

The experience was so terrifying that Cox contacted her daughter and boyfriend during the flight. She simply wrote, “I love you,” to her daughter and told her boyfriend everything was going on. Thankfully, the plane landed without issue.

Cox shared a never-before-seen picture of the two friends on her personal Instagram account for Aniston’s birthday. She captioned it,The world definitely got brighter the day this girl was born. Happy birthday sweetheart! I Love you! ♥️”

The friendship almost never happened

Cox once called Aniston the greatest BFF, but some fans may not know that this friendship almost never happened. The truth is, Aniston nearly missed being cast on the hit show. In fact, the part was first offered to Cox. Thankfully, Cox was more interested in the role of Monica and turned down playing Rachel.

But Aniston wasn’t the next choice either. The role was offered to actress Téa Leoni after Cox turned it down. Leoni also chose to pass on the role in favor of a show called The Naked Truth.

Finally, Aniston was offered the gig, making her the last cast member to be cast on the show.

Will there ever be a ‘Friends’ reunion?

There’s almost never an interview with a Friends cast member where they are not asked whether there will ever be a Friends reunion. It’s a question that has been asked since the show ended in 2004.

Sadly, it doesn’t look like a reunion is in cards. Though Cox, Aniston, and Lisa Kudrow have all expressed that they’d be game for a reunion, Friends creator says that she just doesn’t think that a reunion is a good idea, saying, “…the show is about a time in your life when your friends are your family. It’s not that time anymore. All we’d be doing is putting those six actors back together, but the heart of the show would be gone.” She added that she didn’t think there would be anything to gain from a reunion.
