Are Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans Friends In Real Life?
For fans of the Marvel Universe, it seems like just yesterday the first Iron Man hit theaters. It was actually 11 years ago when the franchise started. Now we are facing the Endgame, and that has people wanting more.
As the stars are making their promotional rounds from one talk show to the next, it is clear they have built strong professional relationships with each other. Two actors, in particular, seem to be getting a lot of attention for their reported friendship.
Over the course of the Marvel franchise, the main characters have spent a lot of time together, and many of them have friendships on and off the set. They even communicate in group text messages like the rest of us. Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr. might seem like an unlikely pair, but it turns out they’re great friends. They might even be BFF’s in real life.
Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans met over a decade ago
It is hard to imagine any other actor playing Captain America. Evans is the perfect man for the job, and Downey Jr. felt the same way. So much so that he was the one who convinced Evans to take on the role.
Evans was reportedly not sure he wanted all the responsibility that Cap would come with, so he turned down the role twice. Downey Jr. ultimately contacted him and convinced him to sign on.
When asked, what makes Evans the best Captain America, Downey Jr told Men’s Health: “At the root of it, he has true humility. I think it’s the reason he was able to kind of come to the front and be our team leader in the Avengers. I think a lot of his theater experience helped, too. Because it was like, ‘OK, I’m going to dress up, I’m going to go out, and I’m going, to tell the truth.’ It’s very kind of old-school Spencer Tracy. Although I guarantee you Spencer Tracy never would’ve put on that getup.”
Chris Evans and Robert Downey Jr.’s ‘bromance’ is sealed with Disney memes
Their friendship seems to have moved passed professional admiration into a strange — yet, wonderful — place where they communicate with Disney memes on social media. Downey Jr. started the Disney memes off with an image of Bambi and Faline saying, “All the way down to the eye color.” meaning they are alike in every way.
Next came the Toy Story meme where Downey Jr. and Evans compare their friendship to that of Buzz and Woody. Downey Jr. captioned the Instagram post with “You’ve got a friend in…..oh, wait. #CivilWar”
Although their characters Captain America and Iron Man took opposing sides in Captain America: Civil War, off-screen their friendship continued to grow.
Then there was the post on Twitter that Downey Jr. shared. It compares himself to Snow White and Evans as the prince. This one was captioned with “A natural addition @ChrisEvans.”
Evans replied to the Snow White meme through Twitter saying: “Well I don’t know how you keep nailing these, but thank you for my new screensaver. And headshot. How do I make this my ringtone?”
Are Robert Downey Jr. and Chris Evans friends in real life?
Yes, we think it is safe to assume that these two A-list actors are good friends. Not just because of the memes or the kind things they say about each other in interviews, but also because Downey Jr. bought Evans a custom car.
Yes, you read that right. Downey Jr. shelled out big bucks on it: The Captain America themed 1967 Chevy Camaro, was also featured on Jay Leno’s Garage and cost $275,000, reports CNBC.
We don’t know if the Avengers franchise is coming to a close, but we are pretty confident that Downey Jr. and Evans are going to be friends for a long time. This is excellent news for those of us looking forward to seeing more Disney memes describing their BFF status.
