Are the Duggars Trying to Phase Derick Dillard Out of Their Lives?

Since 19 Kids and Counting, we’ve been keeping up with Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar as well as their 19 kids. And while we remember when even the oldest Duggar kids were just in their teens, the children we all know and love are growing up fast. Now, many fan favorites, like Jessa, Jinger, and Jill, have all courted, married, and started families of their own (which we also love watching on Counting On).

Jill Duggar fans have been keeping up with her and her controversial husband, Derick Dillard, on social media. But their followers have also started to wonder if the Duggar family is trying to phase Derick totally out of their lives. Here’s why that might be so.

Derick likely fell out of favor with the Duggars after his hateful Twitter activity

There’s a reason Counting On fans never see Jill and Derick Dillard on the show anymore — and that’s because TLC booted the couple when they caught wind of Derick’s hateful tweets. Us Weekly explains back in August 2017, Derick took to Twitter to attack his transgender TLC co-star, Jazz Jennings. When the network was promoting her show, I Am Jazz, Derick tweeted, “What an oxymoron… a ‘reality’ show which follows a non-reality. ‘Transgender’ is a myth. Gender is not fluid; it’s ordained by God.” And, after Jazz reportedly went under gender confirmation surgery, Derick took to Twitter once again to write, “A system that allows this kind of child abuse is clearly broken.”

In addition to an attack on Jazz Jennings, Derick also tweeted homophobic comments to Nate Berkus and Jeremiah Brent from Nate & Jeremiah by Design. Us Weekly reports he wrote, “What a travesty of a family. It’s so sad how blatant the liberal agenda is, such that it both highlights and celebrates a lifestyle so degrading to children on public television as if it should be normal.” While the other Duggars might share Derick’s views, but they haven’t come forward with the same hate or triggering language.

Derick seemingly hasn’t attended a Duggar family event in ages

The Duggars already get quite a lot of buzz for their ultra-religious views and conservative way of life. And we can’t forget that their oldest son, Josh, also brought along a ton of controversy in the past. For that reason, it seems likely they’d want to limit the bad media attention for themselves — and that could mean cutting Derick out of family events.

While fans aren’t sure if Derick is choosing not to attend Duggar events or if he’s not invited by the family, they’ve noticed he’s rarely in attendance. OK! Magazine notes the Duggars recently threw an Asian-themed dinner party — and while Jill was there, Derick was not. Not only that, but Derick and Jill were also recently missing from the Duggar Valentine’s Day celebration, and he’s rarely mentioned in posts on the family’s Instagram.

Some reports claim Michelle and Jim Bob Duggar aren’t happy with him

While fans have expressed how upset they are with Derick in the past, Radar Online reports Jim Bob and Michelle are also unhappy with him. As one insider told the publication, “Everything that Derick has said has caused the family bad press.” And the insider also mentioned that Jim Bob and Michelle have confronted Derick about his behavior and how his hateful social media activity needs to end.

It appears Derick hasn’t posted anything too inflammatory in recent months, so perhaps the report is true and he’s taking what his in-laws are telling him to heart. Either way, fans are still interested in what Jill and Derick are up to, even if they won’t be making any upcoming appearances on Counting On. As for if Derick will be in attendance for any future Duggar events, we’ll have to wait and see.
