Davidson didn’t hold back

During his special, Pete Davidson: Alive From New York, the comedian didn’t hold back about calling out Grande and their failed relationship.

“I wasn’t going to do jokes about this, but then my buddy told me, he’s like, ‘Yo, I recently heard that Ariana said she had no idea who you were and she just dated you as a distraction.’ So now I just think it’s like fair game,” he explained.

Davidson further justified his reason for taking jabs at her, noting, “Also, don’t applaud, this isn’t like a Drake vs. Lil Wayne concert. This isn’t a competition. She has songs and stuff and this is what I have. That’s it.”

“And you’re like, ‘Pete, this isn’t fair. You’re airing out your dirty laundry. How could you do that? Where did she say this stuff? To her friends? In the confidence of her own home?’ No, she said it on the cover of Vogue magazine.”

Davidson assured ‘these are jokes’

The comedian imagined what it would be like if he did something similar, saying, “My career would be over tomorrow. If I spray-painted myself brown and hopped on the cover of Vogue magazine and just started sh*tting on my ex?”

“If I was like, ‘Yeah, I was just f*cking her ‘cause I was bored. Then Fortnite came out!,’” Davidson added. “That would be insane. And you’re like, ‘Well, Pete, something had to happen to her, right? You know, there had to be some repercussions, right?’ No. She won Billboard’s Woman of the Year. And I got called ‘Butthole Eyes’ by BarStoolSports.com.”

He reiterated, “Again, these are jokes, I don’t want any smoke, okay?”

Grande’s fans were upset

Grande’s fans were quick to fire back at the comedian on social media, calling him out for using her name to stay relevant. One fan tweeted: “I wish Pete Davidson could stop using Ariana’s name for clout like dude keep her name out your mouth annoying.”

Another Arana supporter tweeted: “the way pete is a flop and the only way he can stay relevant is by dissing ariana in his netflix special.”

Others thought Davidson had every right to throw shade at his ex, with one person commenting: “i don’t like pete davidson and i think he’s unfunny. but he can make jokes. ariana threw countless amounts of shade towards pete and he never defended himself. y’all bullied him his a** off ig. even at the end he said that he wishes her the best, allow this man to make jokes.”

Another person pointed out on Twitter: “why is ariana allowed to use her platform to speak up about her break ups but pete can’t use his? interesting.”
