Ariana Grande’s Grammy Awards: Her 2020 Nominations And Past Wins

Pop superstar Ariana Grande is no stranger to the Grammy Awards. She has attended music’s biggest night before. However, it’s been a few years since her last appearance (see below) in 2016.

Now, Grande is celebrating an impressive number of nominations ahead of the 2020 Awards. How many has she won in the past, and will she attend this year? Let’s find out.

Grande has been nominated multiple times in the past. She was first nominated in 2015 for two Grammys for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for “Bang Bang” and Best Pop Vocal Album for My Everything. In 2017, she was nominated for Best Pop Vocal Album for Dangerous Woman and Best Pop Solo Performance for the title track.

In 2019, Grande was once again nominated in those same two categories: Best Pop Solo Performance for “God Is a Woman” and Best Pop Vocal Album for Sweetener. The latter marks Grande’s first Grammy win.

Why wasn’t Grande at the 2019 Grammy Awards?

Despite her win at this year’s ceremony, Grande has had a bit of beef with the Recording Academy. She was scheduled to perform at the 2019 Awards but pulled out shortly before. Producer Ken Ehrlich stated that the conversations happened “too late.” However, Grande said that wasn’t the case.

In a series of tweets, Grande said that the issue was that her “creativity & self expression was stifled.” She said that she offered three different songs (one of which, ironically is nominated this year), but the “politics” and “playing games” of it all wasn’t for her.

Grande was nominated for these Grammys this year

For the 2020 Grammys, Grande has achieved a number of firsts. This is the first time she has been nominated two years in a row, as her two albums, Sweetener and Thank U, Next, came out in subsequent years. It’s also the first time she’s been nominated for so many Grammys: A total of five, to be exact.

Grande is up for Best Pop Vocal Album and Album of the Year for Thank U, Next. She’s also nominated for Record of the Year and Best Pop Solo Performance for her single “7 Rings.” Finally, she’s nominated for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance alongside Social House for the track “Boyfriend.”

Will Grande perform at the 2020 Grammy Awards?

Grande is currently on the final leg of her Sweetener World Tour. She’s back in the U.S. after touring in Europe for the past few months. The tour will end in Los Angeles on Dec. 22, 2019, and after that, she doesn’t appear to have anything scheduled (or at least, that she’s announced).

So will she perform at the Grammys? It seems likely. The timing works out well, and it will even give her a bit of time to recover from her recent illness. Grande alluded to this when the Recording Academy tweeted back to her after the announcement, to which she replied in a since-deleted tweet, “Be sure to have an ambulance and lots of Cliquot on standby.” Let’s hope that’s much better by then and eager to put aside the feud of the past.
