Arrested: Lori Harvey, Steve Harvey’s Stepdaughter, in Trouble for Hit and Run
Harvey was driving alone
According to E! News, Harvey was involved in a single vehicle accident and hit a parked car with her Mercedes SUV on a Los Angeles street. The outlet verified this with the Beverly Hills Police Department who also confirmed that Harvey tried to flee the scene of the accident.
OK! spoke to an eyewitness who stated Harvey flipped her own vehicle during the crash and that person believes she was texting and driving. After the accident, the other car’s owner helped pull her out of the damaged vehicle. Another witness stated that Harvey began Facetiming her famous stepdad in the midst of the chaos before the police showed up.
Harvey was arrested on the spot
Officers reportedly apprehended Harvey near the accident scene after her attempt to leave. Although the police cuffed and arrested Harvey at the site, she was not formally taken down to the station and booked. Instead, she was given a citation and charged with two misdemeanors: hit and run and delaying a police investigation.
OK! reports the Beverly Hills police don’t think she was under the influence at the time. “She was arrested for the two charges and released on scene. Not booked. She identified herself properly and signed a written promise to appear in court.”
Incident comes after breakup reports
Harvey’s social media accounts on this past week show snaps of her enjoying some downtime following word that she and rumored beau, Sean “Diddy” Combs, broke up. Harvey, 22, and Combs, 49, never confirmed a romance but the two have been spotted showing PDA and getting cozy during the past few months.
Earlier this month, Combs’ son, Christian, seemingly alluded to their relationship when he told Hollywood Life the pair was “doing good” and having some private time.
But after photos surfaced of Diddy out with another woman while Harvey was out of town, more rumors started circulating that he was being unfaithful. A few days ago, Harvey unfollowed the mogul on Instagram, per People.
What can happen to Harvey in her case?
In California, if one is convicted of a misdemeanor hit and run, the penalty can include up to 6 months in jail, a fine, and probation. It depends on the prosecutor’s recommendations and how the judge chooses to deliver a sentence.
According to Chapter 7 of the California Penal Code, the charge of delaying or obstructing a police officer may result in a different punishment for this particular crime. If convicted, a person could face up to one year in jail and a fine up to $1,000.
Though it’s too early to tell, something tells us Harvey will be just fine in the legal department given her family’s ability to pay for top notch representation. The details of this story continue to unfold, but early reports all indicate no one was injured in the accident.
