During an interview, Charli XCX shared that she only really listens to artists she collaborates with

She’s a pop star, a style icon, and a friend to the LGBTQ community. Charli XCX first burst into the music industry with songs like “I Love It” and “Boom Clap.” Since then, she expanded her repertoire and, with songs like “Track 10” and “Vroom Vroom,” truly helped redefine pop music. During an interview with Glamour Magazine, Charli elaborated on the music she listens to. Primarily, the artists she includes in her albums like Pop 2 and her most recently released album, entitled Charli.

“I don’t listen to a lot of other music aside from people that I work with or my own, which probably sounds really narcissistic and crazy. But I work with people because I think they’re the best,” she said. “I love being a curator. I just think it’s fun because I know I’m smart enough to do it.”

Charli XCX recently released her album entitled ‘Charli’

Although Charli XCX periodically released singles, her album officially dropped on Sept. 13, 2019. This was the first full-length album the artist released since her 2017 success Pop 2. Almost instantly, this new album was welcomed by fans with open arms. Primarily, members of the LGBTQ community commented on Charli XCX’s new music.

“Everyone has better taste in the queer community, anyway,” Charli XCX said during the interview. “It’s not conscious. I’m not, like, ‘Where are the queer artists? I want to work with them!’ But I think I do naturally gravitate toward the queer community. The majority of my friends are in the community. I just feel that energy supporting me so much. I really wouldn’t be where I am without that community. When we go out, it’s often with the community at an LGBTQ+ club or night or something like that.”

The album features popular artists like Lizzo and Troye Sivan

Even an artist as powerful as Charli XCX can’t do it all by herself. Artists featured on Charli include Christine and the Queens, Sky Ferreira, Kim Petras, Tommy Cash, HAIM, Lizzo, Big Freedia, CupcakKe, Brooke Candy, Pabllo Vittar, Clairo, Yaeji, and Troye Sivan. One of her most popular songs off of this new album is “Gone,” which already has over 12 million plays on the streaming platform.

This is not the first time Charli XCX collaborated with mainstream artists. Recently, Charli XCX was featured alongside BTS for their song “Dream Glow.” Her music video for “Boys” featured celebrities like Charlie Puth, Joe Jonas, Jack Antonoff, and Mark Ronson.

Charli XCX’s music, including her album Charli, is available on Spotify, Apple Music, and most major streaming platforms.
