‘Avengers 4’: The 10 Biggest Spoilers We Know So Far
After Avengers: Infinity War, Marvel fans have never been more desperate to find out what happens next. But there’s still only so much we know for sure about Avengers 4. After all, the official title hasn’t even been revealed yet.
However, there are actually a handful of significant spoilers out there, a lot of which have been inadvertently revealed by the actors themselves. Here’s a look at the absolute biggest spoilers we know about Avengers 4, ranked based on how revealing they are and leading up to one set photo that is an absolute game-changer.
10. Paul Bettany has suggested that he’s in it
What will be Vision’s fate in Avengers 4? Thanos kills him in order to get the Mind Stone near the end of Infinity War, but can he return? Could Shuri perhaps rebuild him?
It sounds like that might be the case, as we’ll evidently see the character again in Avengers 4. Paul Bettany once suggested in an interview that he will be in the film.
“It felt like the biggest movie that I’ve ever made and will ever make, and we’ve still got to make the [next] one,” he told Collider of Infinity War.
Next: This character will also be in the movie, and one actress provided spoilery details about a scene.
9. Captain Marvel shares scenes with the Hulk and Thanos
The post-credits scene of Infinity War teases the introduction of Captain Marvel, who we’ll meet for the first time in her solo film in March 2019. She’ll then join the Avengers in May.
Brie Larson has been confirmed for Avengers 4, and it sounds like Captain Marvel will be key to defeating Thanos. We know that she confronts him at some point, as Josh Brolin, who plays Thanos, said in an interview that he shot a scene with Larson. According to Brolin, other characters in that scene include Black Widow, War Machine, Thor, Captain America, and Iron Man.
Scarlett Johansson also gave away in an interview that there’s a scene where Captain Marvel has to put her hand on The Hulk to calm him down. This also reveals that Bruce Banner will finally be able to turn back into The Hulk in Avengers 4, though fans had assumed that.

8. Evangeline Lilly is in it, possibly playing a younger Hope Pym
Evangeline Lilly’s Hope Pym becomes The Wasp in Ant-Man and the Wasp, so is she going to join the action in Avengers 4? Lilly has confirmed that she’s in the movie, but she says it’s a pretty small role. One would imagine that Avengers 4 would be sort of an all-hands-on-deck situation, so this might imply that Hope Pym disappears in Thanos’ snap and therefore Lilly’s only scenes are at the end after everyone has returned.
Interestingly, Lilly posted a photo in December 2017 of her getting ready to film a scene, seemingly for Avengers 4. But she has her old hairstyle from the original Ant-Man and not the new one from Ant-Man and the Wasp, so unless she just randomly changes her hair back, this is either a flashback, or it indicates that there will be some time travel shenanigans (more on that in a bit).
Speaking of that photo, Lilly captioned it with, “Another day done and dusted.” Is this a complete coincidence, or could she be hinting that Hope turns to dust when Thanos snaps his fingers? Lilly also once posted a photo of herself on set with motion capture dots on her face, which could be a part of a sequence where her face disintegrates into dust.
Next: Another photo that suggests the movie involves flashbacks or time travel.
7. There seems to be a scene that takes place in the 1940s
That photo of Evangeline Lilly isn’t the only evidence that not all of Avengers 4 will take place in the present. Back in November 2017, AJC.com posted a photo of Avengers 4 filming happening in Atlanta. The picture shows a bunch of classic cars from the 1940s, the era where Steve Rogers is from.
Chris Evans was reportedly on set that day, either indicating that we’ll get a flashback to Steve before he was frozen, or Steve will actually physically travel back to the 1940s. Evans has suggested he’s finished playing Captain America, so is it possible that Steve will return back to his original time for good?
Next: Sebastian Stan dropped this major spoiler in an interview.
6. There’s a scene with the entire cast, including characters who disappeared
Sebastian Stan actually gave away a pretty big spoiler in an interview shortly before Infinity War opened.
He revealed, “There was one scene, I think, we had where everybody was there. I can’t really talk about that scene, but I knew it took them three months in planning this scene to have everyone there. You look around and you just saw everyone from Samuel L. Jackson to Michael Douglas to Michelle Pfeiffer. Everybody was there.”
Obviously, this scene isn’t in Infinity War, so it must be in Avengers 4. And since the scene involves “everyone,” including characters who disappeared when Thanos snapped his fingers like Bucky, this probably takes place near the very end of the movie, and it confirms that those who disappeared all come back.
What this scene is is anyone’s guess, but fans have theorized that it could be Tony Stark’s wedding. It could also be a funeral.
Next: Based on a recent interview, this character is definitely coming back as well.
5. Zoe Saldana appears in the film, and she’s in the big scene with everyone
So we’ve established that everyone who disappeared when Thanos snapped his fingers is coming back. But what about Gamora? Although she died a normal death, will she return too?
It does sound like she will. Zoe Saldana has confirmed that she filmed scenes for Avengers 4. She’s evidently in enough of the movie that she has to go back for reshoots. Saldana has also said that she shared a scene with Robert Downey Jr., which must be for Avengers 4 since Gamora never meets Iron Man in Infinity War.
Most significantly, Saldana has said that she was in a scene with “everyone” that was filmed in December 2017. She might be talking about the same scene that Sebastian Stan mentioned, which would imply that Gamora comes back to life by the end of Avengers 4 and does not merely appear inside the Soul Stone (though it’s technically possible that the big scene with everyone is a dream or a fantasy sequence).
Next: An actor teases another big scene which is a massive spoiler.
4. There is apparently a battle scene featuring Drax, Spider-Man, and Falcon
While promoting Infinity War, Anthony Mackie teased a massive battle scene featuring 40 superheroes. “There was one day we were on set and were doing this scene that’s in the trailer where we’re all running to battle, you know, all of us are on set and it’s like forty superheroes,” he said. “I look to my right and I see Tom Holland and Dave Bautista.”
He seemed to be referring to the scene where all of the characters run into battle in Wakanda. Yet that scene is not in the movie, and Drax and Spider-Man never even meet Falcon.
So what’s Mackie talking about? It’s possible he was just straight up lying in order to throw us off. But it’s also possible that he just got confused and he was thinking of a scene in Avengers 4; Infinity War and Avengers 4 were shot back to back, so that seems possible. If so, this would suggest that not only do the characters who disappear come back, but they also take part in a battle.
Whatever this battle is, Mackie got it confused with the one in the shot above, so perhaps Avengers 4 ends with sort of a do-over of the Wakanda battle, except this time, all of the heroes are united for it.
Next: Gwyneth Paltrow accidentally revealed this spoiler in an interview.
3. Tony Stark and Pepper Potts have a kid
Yet another Marvel actor who seems to have accidentally spoiled something in an interview is Gwyneth Paltrow.
Paltrow was asked about Tony Stark and Pepper Potts’ relationship in an interview, and she said, “Pepper and Tony have had a real long journey together. She obviously starts as his dutiful assistant, and then the relationship evolves, and now this decade later they’re married, and they have a child. Their relationship has evolved in all of the ways that great romances evolve.”
Yes, you read that right. Paltrow seems to have just spoiled that Tony and Pepper have a child in Avengers 4. It’s possible she misspoke, but what seems more likely is that she got confused about which scenes were for which movie since she filmed them back to back. So apparently, in Avengers 4, Tony and Pepper finally have that kid, either at the very end of the film or perhaps in between movies. They also get married as they were planning to.
Next: A surprising amount of time may pass between movies.
2. Tony Stark seems to join SHIELD, and there may be a time jump
In January 2018, Just Jared released some set photos showing Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark wearing a SHIELD uniform. This was rather intriguing at the time, and it is even more so after seeing the end of Infinity War. Perhaps in the aftermath of Thanos’ attack, Tony has become the director of SHIELD. He also looks older in these photos, which could imply that a decent chunk of time passes between Infinity War and Avengers 4.
Another piece of evidence to support that is the fact that Marvel is reportedly casting a 16-year-old actress to play Cassie Lang, Scott’s daughter. The actress who plays Cassie in Ant-Man and the Wasp is 10, so might there be a time jump of six years between the two Avengers films?
Next: This is an absolutely massive spoiler that suggests Avengers 4 is going in a crazy direction.
1. There’s a scene that takes place at the Battle of New York
If there wasn’t enough evidence that Avengers 4 will feature time travel, take a look at the leaked set photos of a sequence that takes place at the Battle of New York. This can’t just be a flashback because Ant-Man is there.
All of the actors have dots all over them, and they’re wearing some sort of devices on their wrists. Tom Hiddleston has been spotted filming during this sequence dressed as Loki from The Avengers. And other actors have been seen dressed as their characters from that era, i.e. Chris Hemsworth as Thor with the long hair.
This would seem to suggest that in Avengers 4, the characters travel back in time to the events of the 2012 film; the device on their wrists could be allowing them to do that, and the dots could be for the post-production crew to add some sort of visual effect indicating that the characters are traveling in time. It could also be that the Avengers hop through alternate universes.
It’s also technically possible that the characters are simply revisiting the Battle of New York using Tony’s B.A.R.F. technology. But it seems much more likely that they’ll be traveling back in time in an attempt to stop Thanos from getting the Infinity Stones and save 50 percent of the population.
