‘Avengers 4’: Fans Now Have a New Theory About the Official Title
Another day, another new theory about the name of Marvel’s still untitled fourth Avengers movie. This time, fans are either on to something, or they’re seriously reading into a recently-deleted Instagram post from The Russo Brothers.
Recently, directors Joe and Anthony Russo made a post on their joint Instagram account that had the caption “A4 title reveal…” It was just black text on a white background that read, “Infinity Mirrored Room Aftermath of Obliteration of Eternity.”
Obviously, they’re just joking around here. The Russo Brothers have been known to troll fans, and this picture is actually just of the title of an art installation. So the Russos were probably at this art installation and posted a photo of this title, playfully suggesting it’s the name of Avengers 4. No news here, right? Can we pack it in?
Well, the reason this is worth talking about at all is that the Russos ended up deleting this post. Why? If it’s just an innocent joke, why would they have to delete it? One theory among fans is that the Russos realized soon after posting it that “Aftermath of Obliteration of Eternity” comes too close to inadvertently giving away the real title of the movie.
With that in mind, fans think the title could be Avengers: Infinity, Avengers: Aftermath, or, most likely, Avengers: Eternity. This could actually make some degree of sense and explain the picture being deleted. Perhaps the Russos know the title is Avengers: Eternity, and so when they saw this art exhibit, the words “infinity” and “eternity” obviously brought their movie to mind. So they decided to snap a picture and quickly throw it up on Instagram as a joke. But they only later realized that making any sort of connection between these words and Avengers 4 could be too big of a hint, so they deleted the post.
Avengers: Eternity also makes sense as the title for another reason. Back in May, the Russos revealed that the closest guess to the real Avengers 4 title is Avengers: Forever. Seeing as eternity is literally a synonym of forever, that would certainly fit with their quote.
Then again, perhaps fans are reading too much into a silly joke that had nothing more to it than the fact that seeing the word “infinity” at an art gallery made the Russo Brothers think of Infinity War, and they deleted the post purely as a way of trolling the fans. But as a result of all of this, Avengers: Eternity has risen up in the ranks of theorized titles.
Some of the other guesses at the Avengers 4 title include Avengers: Time War, Avengers: End Game, Avengers: Disassembled, and Avengers: The End. Whatever the name is, we won’t know it for a while longer; Kevin Feige said in a recent interview that the title wouldn’t be revealed until towards the end of the year after Captain Marvel‘s first teaser is released.
Avengers 4, or whatever it ends up being called, will hit theaters in May 2019 and will serve as the conclusion to the first 11 years of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
