All of The ‘Avengers: Endgame’ Behind-the Scenes Shots the Cast Has Shared
By now, pretty much everyone who cares even a little about pop culture knows that Marvel is very secretive, especially when it comes to the films that make up the MCU. Leading up to the release of Avengers: Endgame, the cast and crew were even more tight-lipped than usual. But now that the spoiler embargo is up, they’ve taken to social media to share behind the scenes photos and videos from set. So we’ve rounded them all up for you in one place.
Cap and Black Panther
Captain America himself, Chris Evans, has really let loose on Twitter since the spoiler embargo ended. Here’s a shot of him and Chadwick Boseman (T’Challa / Black Panther) on set.
Evans, who doesn’t have an Instagram account, also shared this video in which he showed the embroidered folding chairs for each of the actors, bearing the name of their character. There’s a lot to unpack in this video: Benedict Wong (Wong) taking a nap, a Christmas tree, and even the box that holds Cap’s shield (!!).
On the press tour, a few of the Endgame stars mentioned that Robert Downey Jr. had quite the set up, and often hosted lunch in his “camp.” After the film’s release, we learned that one of those lunches was for all the lead women. Zoe Saldana and others shared their memories and photos from the meal.
The (first) lake scene
OK, it’s time to get into some sad stuff (and definitely spoiler territory). After Black Widow sacrificed herself so Clint Barton could take the Soul Stone back to Earth, the remaining five of the original six Avengers sat on a dock overlooking a beautiful lake and talked a little about their friend.
Evans took a two part video during the filming of that scene, as well as photo of himself and Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Mark Ruffalo (Bruce Banner / Hulk), Downey Jr. (Tony Stark / Iron Man), and Jeremy Renner (Barton / Hawkeye). Despite the somber tone of the shoot, it looks like they were having a good time together.
The video that started them all
Like his character, Peter Quill / Star-Lord, Chris Pratt isn’t one to follow the rules. In fact, he took this behind-the-scenes video that features nearly every single Endgame cast member, and shared it just a couple of days before the spoiler embargo lifted. And others followed suit.
As you can see, Evans and Elizabeth Olsen (Wanda Maximoff / Scarlet Witch) also took their own videos that same day, while filming a scene that is difficult to place in the film (but we have a theory).
Singing ‘Happy Birthday’
Considering how long filming for Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame went, probably everyone celebrated a birthday at one point. So when Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man) shared this video in honor of the anniversary of the release of Iron Man — which ends right before the say the recipient’s name — fans tried to piece things together.
Fortunately, we didn’t have to wait long. The next day, Josh Brolin (Thanos) shared that the video was of the cast singing to him on his 50th birthday, revealing the extended cut.
You may not be aware of this, but Karen Gillan (Nebula) is actually Scottish. She pulls off a perfect, gruff voice when playing the alien creature, but as it turns out, her talent for accents extends beyond just her character. Gillan shared a video of herself doing a very finely tuned British accent, which was especially funny to fans of the U.K. reality series Love Island.
Star-Lord and Nebula
All of the Chrises
A commonly made joke about the MCU is how many actors there are named Chris. Sean Gunn (who portrays Kraglin in the Guardians of the Galaxy films but also does the motion capture work for Rocket in Endgame) decided to play on this with a photo of Chrises Hemsworth, Pratt, and Evans on set.
RDJ filming scenes
Downey Jr. is the man who started this whole thing, and given his character’s demise, it makes sense that he’d be the one with the most to share from set. He shared a funny video of himself before shooting a scene, as well a slow-motion action moment during the battle against Thanos.
The entire cast and crew
Everyone who works with Downey Jr. has nothing but nice things to say about him, and it’s pretty clear as to why. In addition to being a great actor, he’s clearly an incredible person. He even took the time to honor everyone who worked on the films with the above panorama image.
Mark Ruffalo premiere video
Oh, Ruffalo. The man is known for accidentally spoiling MCU secrets (remember the time he was on Instagram Live during the Thor: Ragnarok premiere?), so it was cute when he took a video of the cast at the premiere after seeing the movie. Make sure you listen for when Brie Larson congratulates him for keeping his mouth shut this time.
Jeremy Renner becomes Ronin
As quickly became obvious from the trailers, Hawkeye got a new look this time around. Renner shared some behind-the-scenes photos and videos of him in hair and makeup, receiving his Ronin transformation.
But don’t worry, he’s still Hawkeye when it counts. This quick video looks like it was taken while they were shooting the opening scene of Endgame, in which Barton is teaching his daughter his greatest skill.
A very festive lunch
Remember when we mentioned RDJ’s famous lunches. Here’s a look at one of them, which had a theme, it would appear. Hemsworth was clearly into it.
We may even be able to determine what was being filmed on the day this took place. Renner shared his own video from the lunch, in which everyone looked at him and blamed him for Scarlett Johansson’s character’s death. So maybe that’s what they were working on when they broke for the meal.
Stan Lee’s cameo
No one is coming to have better behind-the-scenes shots than the directors themselves. Here, we see Stan Lee with the Russo Brothers, the writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, and executive producer Trinh Tran. Clearly, this is the day he shot his 1970s cameo for Endgame.
Stormbreaker and Stark in space
Now that their own embargo has lifted, the Russos are free to share incredible photos taken during filming. Above, we have Joe Russo holding Stormbreaker, talking to Hemsworth. Below, both directors give Downey Jr. notes while he’s filming a scene from early in the movie.
Wanda to the Max
Brie Larson’s chair
Larson told her Instagram followers that she was “too scared” to take any secret photos or videos, because filming Endgame was her first time playing Carol Danvers / Captain Marvel. But she later managed to unearth this one of her chair on set, featuring a pizza box.
Zoe Saldana knows what we want to see
Downey Jr. and Evans might take the most videos, but Saldana (Gamora) is the one who knows what audiences want. In fact, one video, in which she’s applying green lipstick in full Gamora makeup, became a meme.
In addition to incredible action shots like the one above, Saldana just generally likes to show her enjoying herself. In this video, she’s dancing, and sings in Spanish, seemingly forgetting that she’s supposed to be Gamora at that moment.
Becoming the Wasp
Evangeline Lilly has been as busy as many of her co-stars. She note in a post on Twitter that she went straight from filming Ant-Man and the Wasp to Endgame. But she couldn’t have done it all without the help of those working on her costume and makeup, who she paid tribute to online.
Friends on set
Finally, here’s an unlikely friendship: Hulk and Wasp. Lilly shared a photo of herself and Ruffalo, clearly taken “illegally,” during filming.
