‘Avengers: Endgame’: Chris Evans Reveals His Favorite Superhero Growing Up

One of the most popular Avengers has long been Captain America, played to perfection by Chris Evans. For nearly 10 years, Evans has embodied the honorable, patriotic character.

Soon, his time as Captain America will come to an end, as it is being reported that his final appearance as the character will be in the upcoming film Avengers: Endgame. As it turns out, Evans was initially drawn to a different, much darker superhero.

Chris Evans made his first appearance as Captain America in the 2011 film Captain America: The First Avenger. Critics and audiences both loved his earnest, sincere approach to the character, and loved the energy that he brought to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Evans reprised his role in The Avengers, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, Avengers: Age of Ultron, and Avengers: Infinity War, and Spider-Man: Homecoming. He also makes a cameo appearance as Captain America in the recent hit film Captain Marvel

For several years, there was speculation about whether Evans would continue to play Captain America after the grand finale of Avengers: Endgame. While initially, he said that he might not be done with the character, in 2018 he admitted he wanted to get off the train “before he is pushed off.”

Although it is sad news for fans, Evans might be on to something – it seems a smarter move to stop playing the character while audiences still love seeing him rather than continuing for many more years and wearing out his welcome.

That doesn’t mean that Evans won’t miss his role as the Captain – he stated recently that he considers it an honor to have donned the costume and shield of Captain America. He admitted to being incredibly emotional after the last day of filming on Avengers: Endgame

Although he made his fortune as Captain America, Chris Evans grew up loving a hero from the DC universe. In a recent interview, Evans admitted that even though he wasn’t considered a cool kid in his younger days, and enjoyed Warner Bros. cartoons such as Bugs Bunny, he did love the character of Batman.

He especially loved the movies that starred Michael Keaton as Batman, even though he said that he “probably shouldn’t” say, since after all, Batman is DC while he works for Marvel.

Although he will be retiring from the role of Captain America after the April release of Avengers: Endgame, Evans has a very busy schedule after his contract with Marvel ends. He is attached to star in several big-budget films, including the spy thriller The Red Sea Diving Resort and the science-fiction film Infinite. Evans will also take a leap into the world of television acting in 2019 when he plays the lead in Defending Jacob.

The series, which will be streamed on Apple TV+, tells the story of a father who is confronted with the accusation that his young son could be a murderer. The show will likely be a great test of Evans’ dramatic acting abilities and co-stars Marck Bomback and Adam Schulman.

Another upcoming project of his that is gaining a lot of buzz is the film Jekyll. Evans will be playing the only living descendant of the famed Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde, and has to deal with the demons that the realization causes him. Not much else is known about the film yet, but with Ellen DeGeneres as the producer, it is bound to be a huge film that draws a lot of attention.

With a wealth of talent, good looks, and audience appeal, there’s no doubt that Chris Evans will only continue to grow in his career.
