‘Avengers: Endgame’ Deleted Scenes Reveal It Took a Few Tries to Get This 1 Thing Right

Making a major motion picture takes a lot of hard work and dedication by a whole slew of professionals in order to make it engaging and entertaining for the audience. When you are making a movie that was one of the highest-grossing movies in history, it takes an exceptional amount of hard work to get the perfect story ready for the big screen.

When it came to making the Avengers: Endgame, the director had a hard time ensuring that the movie would not only be entertaining but that it would also work well with the other movies within the franchise.

In fact, Disney+ recently revealed that there was one element of the movie that they had to re-work several times in order to get it just right.

Keep reading to find out why Avengers: Endgame had to have several reshoots in order to get this one thing right.

As any science-fiction writer can tell you, trying to come up with a story that involves time travel can be very tricky. Especially if you are having to integrate two different movies into one. In Endgame, an evil villain named Thanos steals the infinity stones which completely wipes out half of the world’s population.

The only way that the Avengers can fix was Thanos has destroyed is to travel in time and collect the infinity stones before Thanos can get his hands on them.

In order to get the time travel sequences just right, writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely, as well as Directors Joe and Anthony Russo had to go back and reshoot two different scenes.

The first scene that they had to reshoot was where the time travel timeline was explained.

In the first take, The Ancient One is explaining to Hulk how time travel works. In her explanation, she tells Hulk: “If you travel to the past from your present then that past becomes your future and your former present becomes your past, therefore you cannot be altered by your new future.”

The directors decided to cut out The Ancient One’s explanation form the movie and instead, have Hulk explaining the exact same rules of time travel to the team.

By cutting out The Ancient One’s scene, the directors were able to tell the audience about time travel while also allowing the audience to get a more clear picture of what the characters knew before they went on their time travel mission.

The other scene that the Russo brothers decided to reshoot first showed Nebula, Hulk, and Ant-Man as they were about to try out the Quantum Realm suits on Hawkeye to see if their time travel idea even worked. Instead, a big chunk of the scene was cut out and now showed Ant-Man in the suit while Hulk explained the rules of time travel.

How did the new scenes change the movie?

Because time travel is a fictional idea, there really are no rules to it. This is what makes being a writer so much fun. You get to create your own rules about time travel. Because the rules of time travel change from author to author, many people find the entire concept to be very confusing.

When the Russo brothers decided to change the scenes, they were not only helping the plot flow a little smoother, but they were also allowing the audience to better understand Marvel’s unique time travel rules.

With The Ancient One’s original explanation, it was perceived that by going back in time, you would not be able to alter the future. Which would make the audience much more confused. Especially when The Ancient One told the Avengers later that there could be dire consequences for not returning the stones to where they belong in history.

Will time travel be used again in the Marvel universe?

Disney+ has recently announced that it will be creating a six-episode series about one of Marvel’s most-loved villains, Loki. According to Screen Rant, the producers of the show have said that time travel will play a pretty big role in the new series. Some have speculated that Loki will travel back in time to the 1970s.

The details surrounding the time travel element in the new series has not yet been confirmed. But because Marvel seems to have a good handle on the time travel concept, we are sure that the new series will be very entertaining.
