‘Avengers: Endgame’ Actor, Robert Downey Jr., Turns Down His Own Oscars Campaign
We love this actor 3000. After his performance in Avengers: Endgame, some say Robert Downey Jr. deserves an Oscar for portraying Tony Stark, (even actor and director Jon Favreau agrees.) As of right now, the actor’s chances are looking slim, mostly thanks to what he said during a radio interview. Learn more about what Robert Downey Jr. said here.
Disney submitted ‘Avengers: Endgame’ for multiple Oscar considerations
It’s been a few months since Disney premiered its record-breaking blockbuster, Avengers: Endgame. Since it hit the silver screen, this movie earned praise from fans and critics alike. It surpassed movies like Avatar in box office sales. Recently, Disney launched its “For Your Consideration” campaign for movies like Aladdin, Toy Story 4, The Lion King, and, of course, Avengers: Endgame.
The categories for Avengers: Endgame include Best Picture, Best Director, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Visual Effects, Best Costume Design. This would not be the first time a Marvel movie would be up for multiple Oscar nominations. Last year, Black Panther dominated the award show, taking home the Oscars for Best Original Score, Best Production Design, and Best Costume Design. As far as the nomination for “Best Actor,” it looks as though Robert Downey Jr. won’t be grabbing a nomination for Avengers: Endgame.
‘Avengers: Endgame’ actor, Robert Downey Jr., discussed the Oscar Campaign
During an interview on Howard Stern’s Sirius XM talk show, Robert Downey Jr. discussed the role of superhero movies and Marvel. Primarily, the actor commented on his supposed Oscar nomination for Marvel’s Avengers: Endgame.
“Because it’s a superhero movie they turn [up] their nose at it,” Howard Stern said. “The performance is excellent. It’s a totally believable character.”
“I’m so glad you brought this up because there was some talk about [an Oscar campaign],” Downey added, “And I said, ‘Let’s not.’”
Actor and director Jon Favreau agreed, that Robert Downey Jr. should receive an actor nomination
In contrast to Robert Downey Jr., Iron Man’s Jon Favreau commended the actor on his performance as Tony Stark. During an interview with Variety, the actor and director stated that Robert Downey Jr. should earn an Oscar nomination.
“He has my vote for sure,” Favreau said. “I think he was able to discover and explore dimensions of the character over the course of many, many films, which is a bit of its own category. But I have to say that if you look at, especially how it began and how it ended in his performances between the first one and ‘Endgame,’ there was a really thoughtful arc to the character, both in his performance and how all the filmmakers contributed to that character.”
“I’m glad I got to be a part of it and be there for those meaningful scenes as an actor, but also to be there as a friend, and to watch him explore things deeply through a character [when] you don’t normally have that opportunity. And he took full advantage of it,” the actor continued.
