‘Avengers: Endgame’: Will There Be Another Avengers Movie?
Despite the fact that the highly-anticipated fourth Avengers movie, Avengers: Endgame, has not been released yet, fans are already looking forward to what will happen to the Marvel Cinematic Universe afterward.
Since the name Engame somewhat implies that the adventures of the Avengers team will not continue, the reality is that fans have a lot to be optimistic about. Let’s look at what we know so far to see what the future holds for the Avengers.
‘Avengers 5’ has not been confirmed yet
Unfortunately, a fifth Avengers movie has not yet been confirmed by the studio, so right now, all we can say is that it’s not certain whether there will be anything after Endgame.
However, the films of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are split into different phases. We are currently in Phase 3, which started with Captain America: Civil War in 2016 and will be ending with Avengers: Endgame. Thus, it’s less likely that things are wrapping up in the MCU and simply that we are transitioning into another exciting period in movie history.
For those who are curious about this, Marvel has reserved several weekends from 2020 to 2022, so fans believe that Avengers 5 will likely fall under one of those release dates. Based on the past releases of other Avengers movies, Inverse.com predicts that Avengers 5 could be released on either May 7, 2021 or May 6, 2022.
“The amount of time between then and now (at time of writing, it’s April 17, 2019) means there’s enough time to lay the groundwork for an overarching narrative that a fifth Avengers film could then focus on while also establishing the stories for new and veteran MCU heroes,” the site wrote.
‘Spider-Man: Far From Home’ will start the next phase in the Marvel Cinematic Universe
Just a few months after Avengers: Endgame, the first film in Phase 4 will come out. Spider-Man: Far From Home, which takes place as Peter Parker goes on a school trip to Europe, will hit theaters on July 5, 2019.
Although Marvel has not revealed their plans for Phase 4 yet, it is predicted that we will know more after Spider-Man: Far From Home is released.
Other MCU movies are currently in the works
We also know that there are a few more Phase 4 films in various stages of production.
Black Panther 2 has been confirmed, though it seems the movie is currently only in its screenwriting phase as we speak. Thus, it’s hard to tell at the moment what the film will be like and whether beloved villain Killmonger will return or not.
Black Widow, the first solo movie starring Scarlett Johansson as the titled superhero, is reportedly also in the works. Some have predicted that Black Widow could take place before the first Avengers movie back in 2012, though that remains to be confirmed.
Doctor Strange 2 is in the works as well, which fans thought was surprising considering the character “died” in Avengers: Infinity War last year. However, no one really dies in the MCU, so Marvel has confirmed that Stephen Strange will indeed be back in another solo film.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 will be released some time in the future. The film recently got pushed back due to its director being fired, and now a release date is still unknown. However, Chris Pratt has reassured fans that the movie is still being worked on diligently by the studio.
Aside from movies starring superheroes that fans already know and love, there are a few upcoming ones that aim to introduce some new faces into the Marvel Cinematic Universe and diversify the genre. Shang-Chi is set to be the first film featuring an Asian superhero. Moreover, The Eternals, which will follow a group of cosmic beings who are “gods of the earth,” is expected to have an openly-gay character.
