‘Avengers: Infinity War’: The 1 Absolute Best Scene That Actually Made Us Cry A Little
Avengers: Infinity War is a major hit. People are flocking to theaters, and it’s sure to set some major sales records. And with very good reason, because the movie is absolutely outstanding. Marvel has spent the last decade building up their cinematic universe, and Thanos made some major dents in that in just under three hours. Despite having to cram a bunch of stars into the film, Infinity War is the gem of the MCU.
As we look at the best scenes from the movie, beware that spoilers are ahead. That includes the No. 1 scene, which may have brought a few tears to our eyes. Last warning for spoilers!
7. The trip to Knowhere
After learning where Thanos would be headed next, the Guardians of the Galaxy made a trip to Knowhere in an attempt to stop the Mad Titan from acquiring the Reality Stone. When they get there, they witness Thanos shaking down the Collector for the stone. Gamora ends up cutting Thanos’ throat and crying as he bleeds out and dies on the floor. Even Peter Quill had to shockingly note that Thanos’ apparent death came pretty quick.
But unfortunately for Gamora, Thanos had already acquired the Reality Stone. The entire thing was an act, created to fool them and make Gamora vulnerable. Having promised that he would kill her if Thanos got a hold of her, we had to watch as Quill made the soul-crushing decision to shoot his beloved Gamora — only to find that his gun fired bubbles. Yet another Thanos trick, courtesy of the Reality Stone. The scene has a lot of twists and turns.
Next: Loki and Thanos
6. Loki tries to pull one last trick
It’s appropriate that Infinity War picks up where Thor: Ragnarok left off. At the end of Ragnarok, we finally find Loki showing some character development. After briefly considering turning on Thor once again, Loki decides to become a hero and do the right thing to save Asgard.
That carries over into Infinity War, when it appears that Loki is ready to turn on his brother once again to save his own life. But in reality, Loki is trying to get close to Thanos to stab him in the neck with a dagger. Unfortunately for him, Thanos saw this coming.
In one of the sadder scenes in the movie, Thor is made to watch while Thanos chokes the life out of Loki and breaks his neck. No resurrections this time. It’s an appropriate end for the god of mischief, having finally come full circle in his character development. And having his death come so early in the movie serves to establish Thanos as both extremely powerful and very dangerous.

5. Thanos makes a sacrifice
After taking Gamora from Knowhere, Thanos uses torture on Nebula to convince his favorite daughter to tell him where he can find the Soul Stone. They make the journey together, up a mysterious mountain on an uninhabited planet. It’s there that they encounter Red Skull, once thought dead but instead cursed to be the protector of the Soul Stone. He escorts the pair to a cliff, where he informs them that to acquire the stone requires the sacrifice of a loved one.
This is bad for Gamora, who initially believes that Thanos couldn’t possibly love anyone. But despite her hatred of her adopted father, Thanos truly did love Gamora. It was heartbreaking to watch him grab his daughter and toss her over the cliff, killing Gamora and allowing Thanos to take one step closer to wiping out half the population of the universe.

4. Star-Lord has a plan, but …
Thanos arrives on Titan to collect the Time Stone from Doctor Strange, but Spider-Man, Iron Man, and several other heroes have set a trap. Quill comes up with a plan for them to drop Mantis onto his head and attempt to put him to sleep. Although Thanos never does knock out, it’s clear that they have him overpowered. At this point, Peter Parker and Tony Stark are working diligently to get the gauntlet off his massive arm.
But Quill’s hot head gets the best of him. Upon learning that Thanos had murdered Gamora, Star-Lord loses his cool. When Quill attacks Thanos, Mantis is knocked off his shoulders and the big man is freed just in time to save the Infinity Gauntlet. If only Star-Lord had kept his composure and waited a few more seconds, the whole rest of the movie would’ve been avoided.
Even still, this is a great scene because we see the heroes working together, and then Quill’s realization that the love of his life is dead.
Next: Thor’s grand entrance
3. Thor arrives on Earth
At the end of the movie, Thanos’ Black Order arrive in Wakanda to attempt to get the Mind Stone from Vision. Wakanda’s greatest warriors, in addition to Steve Rogers, Black Widow, Bucky, and a whole bunch of others are there waiting to go to battle. But just as the heroes begin to appear overwhelmed, Thor makes his grand entrance via the bifrost.
It’s a major moment in the movie, and one that should make the hair on your arms stand on end. Even Bruce Banner laughingly notes that the Black Order are in trouble now. Thor meticulously mows down the enemies, thanks to his brand new ax (which he named ‘Stormbreaker’). It’s an awesome scene, on par with the final moments of Ragnarok when he summons the lightning.
Next: Vision’s sacrifice
2. Thanos turns back time
Another great Thanos scene at the very end ends in heartbreak. With the knowledge that Thanos is on his way, Vision makes an unbelievably hard decision — he asks his love, Wanda, to use her powers to destroy the Mind Stone. They both know that this would kill him, but there is no other way. It’s absolutely brutal to watch as it happens, with the Mind Stone and Vision sort of imploding.
Thanos witnesses Vision’s sacrifice and gives some sort of consolation to Wanda, expressing that he understands her pain. But Thanos has also acquired the Time Stone. In probably the second most jaw-dropping moment of the movie (and of Marvel history), Thanos turns back time and brings Vision back from the dead, only to immediately murder him by ripping the stone right out of his head.
Next: The big finale
1. All those deaths
With Thanos having obtained the final Infinity Stone, it appeared that nothing could stop him from murdering half the population of the universe. But right at the last moment, Thor comes flying in with Stormbreaker, putting the ax straight into Thanos’ massive chest. Thor believes he has won, but Thanos snaps his massive fingers and disappears.
Initially, nobody understands what has happened. But the big shock at the end of the movie is that Thanos has won. The Avengers watch in horror as many of their closest friends begin to simply turn to dust and disappear; first Bucky, Black Panther, and Falcon. Shortly after, Groot, Drax, Mantis, Doctor Strange, and Quill. Peter Parker, with tears in his eyes, slowly dies on the ground in front of Tony Stark.
It’s an emotional and shocking end to Infinity War, which perfectly sets up the events of 2019’s Avengers 4.
