How Baby Archie Will Be Affected If Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Give up Their Royal Titles

Duchess Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been having a very tough time as senior members of the British Royal Family. Though the prince has been in the spotlight for his entire life — during both good and bad times, his marriage to Markle has truly put him under a microscope.

Markle seems like a lovely woman with a heart of gold, but she just can’t seem to catch a break. The duchess has been bullied and harassed in the press and public for her mix-raced heritage, her American nationality, and her advocacy for women.

Now, the pair are hiding out in Canada with their son Archie Harrison, to take a break from their royal duties and the constant pressures of the spotlight. However, there are rumors circling that the duke and duchess might be considering giving up their royal titles.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have been hiding out in Canada

Much to the chagrin of many royal fans — the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have decided to skip out on Christmas with the royal family this year. In fact, the Sussexes have fled the U.K. all together with their son, Archie Harrison.

“As has been reported, Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are spending private time in Canada,” a spokesperson confirmed to Royal reporter Omid Scobie. “The decision to base themselves in Canada reflects the importance of this Commonwealth country to them both. Whilst this email confirms the country they are taking their family time in, for security reasons we will not be releasing any further details and request that their privacy is respect. The Duke of Sussex has been a frequent visitor to Canada over many years, and it was also home to The Duchess for seven years before she became a member of the Royal Family. They are enjoying sharing the warmth of the Canadian people and the beauty of the landscape with their young son.”

It had previously been reported that the duke and duchess may have been spending time in the U.S., but it looks like they chose Markle’s second home instead.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry don’t want to give up their royal titles

Though they’ve been struggling in their roles — the duke and duchess don’t necessarily want to give up their royal titles, at least not right now. Still, they will be rethinking their approach to royal life when they return to the U.K. in 2020.

Though they will never be “traditional” royals like Prince William and Duchess Kate Middleton, the Sussexes may be able to find some middle ground. “I don’t think we can say for sure that they never will renounce their duties,” royal commentator Juliet Rieden told Nine News Australia. “Certainly the Royal Family would not want them to, of course. They are very valuable to the Royal Family, they are wonderful ambassadors. They are very, very popular and they are very engaging when you meet them. I have been watching the Royal Family for a long time now and Harry and Meghan have a very tactile connection with the public. That warmth is something that really benefits the Royal Family, Harry and Meghan just have to find a way to make it work for them. It’s just like with anyone in a new job – you have to find a way to do your best but also make your skills shine.”

Baby Archie’s life would change if Prince Harry and Meghan Markle relinquished their royal titles

Though Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are adamant about giving their son, Archie Harrison a normal childhood — if they do relinquish their titles, he will be affected.

If the Sussexes do give up their titles, they won’t have access to public funding which includes their homes and vehicles. They would no longer complete royal duties on behalf of Queen Elizabeth (just like Prince Andrew). Most importantly, Archie would be forever ousted from the British Royal Family as well.

We certainly get how tough being a royal can be, we just hope Markle and Prince Harry are able to figure it out.
