Baby Archie Is Helping to Mend the Relationship Between Prince William and Prince Harry, Royal Expert Says
There’s something about a new baby in the family that changes everything. Even bitter family feuds.
At this point most royal fans are well aware of the alleged drama between Prince Harry and Prince William, though there is some contention regarding what the root cause truly was. Some people think Prince Harry overreacted to his older brother’s warning about rushing into marriage. Others think it has to do with Prince William’s alleged affair with Rose Hanbury. And others? They say there’s no feud at all, but rather that the two men are naturally growing up and growing apart.
No matter what happened in the past, royal fans have been noticing in recent weeks that Prince William and Prince Harry don’t have any tension between them anymore. Could bonding over new fatherhood be the catalyst for their truce?
Prince William and Prince Harry had a rocky relationship for a while
In recent months it seemed that William and Harry were drifting apart. As Prince William focused on preparing for his role as the future king, Prince Harry got married to Meghan Markle and soon after decided to split offices from his brother. It seemed the two were going in different directions with no common ground.
And it was sad because royal fans remember when the brothers used to be so close. When their mother Princess Diana passed away in 1997, they became closer than ever as they were the only two people in the world who understood each other’s immense loss.
However, their rift had the potential to be repaired by one very small person: Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor, Prince Harry’s first son who was born on May 6, 2019.
The brothers have something new to bond over
There’s something indescribable about becoming a new parent. Joining the “club” turned out to be just what the brothers needed to bring their relationship to a whole new level.
When baby Archie was first born but before the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge got a chance to meet him, reporters asked Prince William his thoughts on his new nephew’s arrival. Prince William said he was “absolutely thrilled” about the birth and then made a classic dad joke, saying: “I’m very pleased and glad to welcome my brother to the sleep deprivation society that is parenting!”
One royal source says their relationship is on the mend
Feud or no feud, things are going well between these royal dads now.
“It’s absolutely the case that the brothers did fall out,” royal expert Kate Nicholl explained. “I was told by a very senior royal source that actually they weren’t talking to each other at one point. I certainly think now that Archie is here, it has probably really helped to improve the relationship. William is over-the-moon that his brother is a dad.”
And it’s not just the brothers enjoying a better bond in the face of parenthood. Nicholl also said that Kate Middleton reached out an olive branch to Meghan Markle despite rumors that these two weren’t getting along before.
“I hear that Kate has made herself available to Meghan if she needs advice, if she needs any help, and Kate said to her, I’m here. I’m here for you,” Nicholl also told Entertainment Weekly.
It sounds like a new baby was all it took to smooth over hurt feelings and old resentments!
